When does this come to Sydney?
Isn't flex pay another type of payday loan?
Exactly, it's designed to keep you in the system. What would drivers usually do on payday.. Drive? Nope! Spend cash is the likely answer. What will drivers now do on what was payday? Drive! as the funds just won't be there.

As a self employment model, if the weekly pay doesn't cover your expenses into the next week and beyond then it's a no brainer Uber is selling you a polished turd.

Yep, while it is convenient, it encourages people to live day to day. Also, i am
sure that there is a fee for this type of service which further reduces your weekly income.

Yes, with a fee as well. Surprised people are excited and happy about this, it's called living beyond your means.

Not trying to be intentionally negative, but it's hard to be happy about predatory loan shark behaviour.
Some people tend to pounce on you if you are critical of Uber, accusing you of being negative.

The fact is there that we must talk about the problems if we want things to change otherwise what is the point of having a forum?

Hey in my world, i do the work, get paid from the customer, put aside/pay suppliers and then invest what is left. I prefer to get my interest calculated daily rather than weekly. Uber for me is a way get out, explore brisbane and to stop me grom sitting at home in retirement eating potato chips and watching tv. It also enables me to connect with my other business interests. I dont see any fees for using the flexpay service, the minute I do i stop using it

I have a bit of a different view. Think about payments in general. If I take a payment via cash, it's available to use immediately. If I take a payment through a bank's merchant facility, it's often settled the same day, even on weekends. If I use Square Reader, funds are deposited within 1-2 business days. Why should Uber hold on to our money for up to a week? Coming from a purported "technology company" that has "payment processing" as one of it's core business functions, it's quite pathetic really. Whilst 2-3 business days is a big improvement, it's still a long way behind genuine payment processors.
