I overheard an interesting conversation among four female pax yesterday.

They were all decked out for a night out on the town, which in Gainesville means the large cluster of bars crowded into one city block called "Midtown."

The arrogant one was telling the story of bedding a guy the night before, and she intentionally didn't tell him she was infectious with "a cold." She was quite proud of herself having concealed that fact from him, as she had got what she wanted and regarded him with disgust. Then she went on declaring herself "so DTF tonight." A great slang word to look up. She is the type of person virus specialists refer to as the "super spreader." (Insert joke here.) This type of arrogant, actually psychopathic person makes the perfect super spreader of a new virus.

Do you think an average university has only one of these?

And that's why Jesus invented condoms.

Here's what I've got so far.

cf = coughing fit
cs = cough single
csx3 = single cough multiple times
sf = sneezing fit
ss = sneeze single
ssx3 = single sneeze multiple times

Jan 31 - cf, ss, sf, sc
Feb 1 - csx4
Feb 2 - csx2, cs, cs, cs, cs, ss
Feb 7 - csx2, csx3
Feb 8 - csx6 Chinese couple
Feb 9 - distressed man to ER no c/s, cs, cs, csx2
Feb 11 - cs

Yesterday was interesting. Perhaps they were all home being sick with only one female passenger heading to a restaurant with that single cough of the day.

The distressed man was a very miserable looking dude in his late 30s. He looked feverish and fatigued but didn't cough or sneeze. I didn't want to catch whatever he was carrying.

I was paying close attention to the Chinese couple as he coughed 6 times. Glad I had a mask.

I steadfastly refuse to drive an Asian PAX, until this thing is over....
The people passing it around today are second hand carriers anyway. In many countries non-Asians are infecting non-Asians. You have to assume all passengers have a dangerous virus, and behave accordingly.

With the declaration that the correct incubation period is now between 2 and 24 days, that's how long a person carries and spreads it before the first symptoms show up. Most often only 3 days pass before one starts feeling sick, but in some cases as long as 24 highly contagious days can pass before developing a fever, dry cough or shortness of breath.

Once a confirmed case is announced close to you, that person may have been infecting others for up to 24 days before seeing a doctor. This is three times as contagious as colds or influenza. There are many cases already where one person infected 8 people at a time. (Germany) With a confirmed case in your area, how many days did that person have to unknowingly spread the virus before seeing a doctor and getting tested? Can all the people he's interacted with over 24 days be tracked down and isolated? No. It worked with SARS, but this one is harder to contain.

I doubt this virus will be contained, just as the common cold was never contained. We'll have them both to keep us company for hundreds of years. Just assume everyone has some bug to share, and act accordingly. Shutting down the planet apparently doesn't work. Ask the Chinese.

I'm leaving here a record of the times a passenger coughs or sneezes in my vehicle.
Some of these will be common colds and seasonal flu, but I'm looking for changes that could signal the presence of the 2019 coronavirus.
Add your data in a similar fashion, and we'll be more aware of trends on the ground where we live.

Gainesville, FL

1/26 9 hours - 1 single cough
1/27
1/28
1/29
1/30
1/31
OK but you also need to get swabs from each passenger.

Also find out where they live and work, and also get the history of all the sexual partners that they have had.

My driving is mostly in a collage town, and most upper class man haven't returned yet. But from the word I'm hearing it's about 50 / 50 in them staying to finish online classes, lots of international students too that half to stay. Always the students are sick when they come back from every break they take during the year and I always catch something. So any sign now and from now on any cough sneeze sniffle out comes Clorox wipes and lysol.

I'm just curious what the final cough statistics ended up looking like. Anyone got a graph or chart?

Reading back in this thread it gets really interesting. I first posted at the beginning of this pandemic. I was making notes of every sneeze and cough daily. Since then many people have posted in this thread, some quite hilariously and expertly declaring that it will quickly disappear and won't amount to anything.

It's been interesting keeping the data. I'll post it below. You can see how the coughs and sneezes have dwindled down to essentially nothing for a week or more at a time. This on-the-street correlation matches up with the missing flu season. With the extra hygiene practices we apparently have killed the flu. Or perhaps anyone with a flu was now declared a covid patient for the extra hospital bucks.

Here's the data.

Key:
cf coughing fit
cs cough single
csx3 single cough multiple times
sf sneezing fit
ss sneeze single
ssx3 single sneeze multiple times
comma separates passengers
