I read many topics and yes in a very few select areas you can make great money, very few. If you follow every rule and insurance regulation, maintenance,, car payments, etc you can make decent money with Uber or Lyft with them taking almost 40%. I show customers that at the end of a ride and cant believe it. I thought you guys got the whole so I show them and compare our phones trip was $12.30 now I just got $5.90 for driving 5 miles to get you then drive you 4 miles further from home. Thats not real pricing just my estimating.I usually get a decent tip though that is not why I do it I just want to bring awareness we dont get hat fare they are complaining about. Showing them calms them down about the $3.00 surge.
With all the rules I would love to speak to the driver who follows them to the letter. Everything is written and charged so if something bad happens Uber will says sorry you didn't have commercial coverage for food delivery, you did not transport the food correctly and thats why the person got food poising. Now all states and counties are different these are examples you know i could go on and on. Basically they have way to much of our money to fight them should accident happen that wasnt your fault though you were going 56 in a 55 mph good luck.

This is why I ask where will it be in a year or 2? Google driver retention rate 3 months for a part time driver? Sounds right they just figured how many rides they gave for that LOF and set of tires. Ask passengers if they noticed a difference in cars and the stories start flowing. And this is why I do this. I enjoy getting out and make a few bucks talking to people on my time.

I am not a programmer though just like Craigslist there must be a way to setup a app to post a request for a ride and use a 3rd party money app maybe Vemo or Google pay. Any suggestions? Why is Uber still making the money there are and drivers loosing or just getting bye.

I will finish with the same question where is ride share going. I will tell you back to Taxis. No BS I drove the other day and customers changed completely. yes there are still the regular great ones and most are all cool. Yes still the original drug run though what are you going to do. They are getting better at it. The other day the lady said I just have to ck on my friend who has been sick, story was holding up till she was back in under 60 seconds. Now that is caring, spending some real quality time checking on her. Though I have noticed that 60% of the people are using other peoples app? I ask the name when they get in and they have to think. Now do I question it or just assume they burnt through there Uber account then a Lyft account and now working on a friends app.

Who knows whats coming especially with this virus people dont need to be going to friends houses, or a house party Friday night. Uber wants there fee. f they cared they could track the app and make it work to home or grocery store. They could. Lets think driver safety and thats why I am not driving. If you are driving its guaranteed you already had contact with someone with the Coronovirus. I pray you ddnt though odds are you have.

It is going to change.

The US having to bail out gig workers will result in employment benefits being shoved down the companies throat. That will also bring guaranteed minimum wage.

The companies will need to modify the platform and their business plan to incorporate it and limitations to their exposure will come in the form of an overall reduction in drivers and an increase in prices.

That is my guess

That isn't doable here in Canada with the vehicle operating costs, or tax implications for a full time employee to deal with, versus my proprietorship setup, or limited company, etc, which works perfectly and makes it worthwhile.

The truth is the ONLY reason they can't offer many perks to us right now is because they're legally not allowed! They either have to go full IC or full employee. The CEO of Uber in his dumb letter said there needs to be a 3rd way, and I agree. Any business should be able to OFFER different stuff a-la-carte to workers. I personally would have opted out of unemployment and healthcare (unless it was an HSA!). Other drivers might want both. They shouldn't have to pick one extreme or the other, that is old stale thinking from the mid 20th century industrial economy world, which barely exists in the 1st world anymore.

AOC, indicated we have 12 years left. That was a year ago. So 11 years left is all we got.
I don't worry about much now.
Yes, but good news. The vaccine will now be here in 11 to 17 months.

Uber drivers are still being well compensated in my area, they are getting paid in Corona's instead of dollars unfortunately.
A network-worthy joke.

Classic representation of the downsides of capitalism and markets. And unfortunately technology. I actually am pretty doubtful Uber will survive this whole debacle. I don’t see them making any effort to innovate. For a company that had a pretty innovative and popular premise they I believe fell into the modern market trap. Those with ability to propell the company forward cashed out big already or now are watching their potential cash out dwindle away. We aren’t going to go back to the amount of Uber rides seen in 2019 anytime soon if ever. Unless the company adapts I think they are going in the crapper. Rideshare in general will have trouble getting the same level of traction again with the fear of viruses. You might not care but others will. The endgame still being autonomous vehicles I think is more Google or Tesla.

100% bullshit.
There is No Law that prohibits providing sick pay or health insurance as part of your contract when working as a 1099.
To the contrary the law is the other way around and requires companies with Employees to provide benefits in certain circumstances.

The fact that you believe it is the other way around proves Uber et al propaganda works on some people.

The huge push is use meat sacks to create a market then jump to autonomous cars. Remember Uber is the only 'rideshare' that has a confirmed kill with their driverless tech. Since labor is cheap and stupid (not knowing how much they can lose on a $3.76 fare) Uber doesn't care. Drive your car into the ground, work for barely $10 (or less) an hour and they take an easy 40-60% off the top. That fare they made is not for YOUR benefit, you don't see any of that money. Uber uses it to pay ITS EMPLOYEES as it tries to figure out driverless cars. THATS THE PLAN.

Since the bar to to entry is so low (a car, phone and license) anyone can do it. The smart ones do it part time and cherry pick. The dumb ones rent cars for the week to work 12 hour days to put $400 in their pocket after everything is paid. Driving is easy, anyone can do it and you can work up until the app kicks you off. That cheap stupid labor is a goldmine for Uber.

In two years the rate will still be low. Driverless tech will still be a pipe dream and Uber will still have an unlimited supply of meat sacks to shuffle rides for a random amount of money.
