I picked up a nice surge on Friday. Guy was coming out with his kids and wanted to go a mile or so. Okay, cool. Then another kid came out. Kinda cozy, but okay. Then his wife. Oh no. My car fits 5 and only 5, myself included. I canceled and told them to call an XL. Oh, but my other driver said it was okay. Your other driver is a derp. Oh, they can sit on my lap. I'm sure they can, but no. Call an XL. No one wants to call an XL.

As I circled around the corner, sure enough he just requested another X. Incredible listening skills, that one. I ignored it.

I hope no one actually enabled that terrible idea.

I had similar yesterday. I had a surge guarantee that was decent so tourist shuttle with a bunch of short runs was worth it. I get the ping, pull in, guy comes to the car with a couple of collage kids. Ok fine. By the time they start getting into the car I see the others. I tell them 5 people? I can't do that. I need seat belts for everyone. Oh they can double buckle. No they can't. First it's still illegal, second there is no way 4 people are going to fit in the back of a Prius. You can either break into two groups and call another X or call an XL.

The one girl starts yelling at the guy why can't we go? He says I didn't know she couldn't take us. Ummm on the rider app it tells you X can have up to 4 people. You just don't want to spend the money.

I do XL in my Ford Flex. At this point, I don't even bother mentioning the fare adjustment I make the next day. "We'll just give you a cash tip" is my favorite - then they forget about that after they've gotten out of the car.

Where did they want to go ? A minimum fare? $4.80? The minimum for many taxis was $3.80 when Bill Clinton was catting around the White House.

Never ceases to amaze me the angst an occasional extra $5.00 will generate in 5 people, much less one.

I get people trying to put 5 or sometimes 6 people in my car . Most are cool when I say no but everyonce in awhile you get someone who wants to make a big deal about it . Sometimes I think it's by accident as it happens a bit more with Select rides then X or Lyft rides , thinking select is the bigger one .
But I just don't get what people are, thinking , it's only 50% more for an XL and everyone can be comfortable . Plus if you have 5 + people and you can't come up with a couple extra bucks between all of you . Maybe you shouldn't be going out

In 946 rides, I've had two incidents where I carried more than capacity.

First one was newbie stupidness.

Then about a month ago it happened again. Four came out and got in. Started trip. Then they said, "oh, there's one more!" I 3*'d their lying butts.

90% of the time, have been able to ward them off. Keep doors locked, window down, if you see a herd headed to your car. And, no, the "other drivers let us" BS doesn't cut it for me.

People are used to pushover newb drivers who give in to their whining.

I don't get paid extra to deal with that, so I rather let some other clueless driver do the (illegal) deed.

1. ask them if they have 4 or less riders prepared to make the trip
2. if they say 'no' = cancel rider no-show
