what would YOU do with an unclaimed iphone

rider left a pretty new iphone in my car. perfect condition I think with a case. the problem is i have no idea who's phone it is. the rider never reached out to claim it. and it's been at least 3 months. it's dead and I don't have an iphone charger.

keep it
toss it
sell it
give it away
apple store drop it which is 45 mins away
hand it to the police as lost property which is a pain in the ass

keep in mind I won't be getting a return fee either as I have no idea who lost this phone

IMHO I would get a hold of a iphone charger, let it turn on and sell it as is for a crackhead price.

lol

I would love to use the iphone for it's camera function but given how married these are to apple ids and the possibility that it could be blacklisted I don't think it's very usable even on wifi
From UberBastids rules of RS

#4 Anything left in my car that doesn't belong to me goes in the nearest mail box as quickly as possible. Only exception: babies.

my rule on unclaimed property is usually this simple.

if it inconveniences me it usually goes in the nearest trash can especially when a return fee isn't likely. but in this case I don't see the point in throwing out a relatively new iphone.
iPhones can be tracked, surprised nobody showed up to your door.

Turn it in to the police, they can find the owner. Only takes a few minutes.

Say you just found it searching under your seats, no clue how long it's been there.

I could carless if someone 'showed up at my door'. and all phones can be tracked including android. but I think it was dead before I ever got home which is probably why the owner had no gps endpoint. you need to remember the property was lost - not stolen.

I'm tired of the rhetoric that when someone finds property they are instantly wronged because it's not theirs. here's an idea. be more responsible and stop losing your expensive electronics through acts of irresponsibly and carelessness.

it's not my job to babysit your property. and there's a chance the person who left it didn't have service and maybe was using WiFi only or maybe they intended to lose it to commit insurance fraud and get a new one by making a bogus claim.

it's more than likely they just forgot it but let's stop with the idea that uber drivers who find property are crooks. stop leaving your shit in my car is the bottom line. even when I always tell people 'you got everything?' they still leave things behind.

I had a woman leave a 5 thousand dollar chanel purse in my car with all her stuff inside. didn't notice until 2 rides later as it was under the seat. she had a lot of bags and a baby with her and probably forgot it. she was also high. luckily for her she was at a trampoline place for kids and I was able to find her.

she hadn't even noticed the purse was gone and she was thankful when I returned it on my own time using my own gas while going offline to do this but still I got no reward. not even a return item fee. so [email protected]# irresponsible riders.

I heard one ringing in my back seat once.
Pax before was a PIA and didn't tip.
Real expensive phone.

I reached back and snagged it.
Looked out the window at a homeless person with a sign.

Handed him the phone, "Here, I think it's for you. That phone is worth at least $100 to whoever owns it."
I got a toothless grin and a "Tanks man".
I know it got to it's rightful owner.

My good deed for that day.

The SIM card should have stored the phone number of the owner.
newer iphones use an esim which is embedded and integrated. there is no removable sim card.

Considering it’s probably blacklisted and not able to be activated, your best hope is to trade it for drugs. 😂

Yes I did something similar when a corporate ****er, left his iPhone behind, after he didn’t tip and was a prick throughout the ride. Even asked me “You a beautiful ass Latina, do you like older married men, and then said he’s got the 7 figure salary and house, and he’s really the prize, and what a honor it’d be if I was able to drop by when his wife was away and he gave me his “big” dick. Then asked me if I perform oral sex. Eventually I stopped the car kicked him out, and he forgot his phone. At the next stop light I tossed his shit out the window.

yea most likely it's blacklisted but sometimes owners don't have insurance and just buy a new one and it never gets blacklisted. but I would only use it for wifi and camera function anyway. problem might be that it's married to an apple id and you can't easily change the apple id it's married to. no apple id no validation no usability.
that's hilarious
He may get a nice tip. Shit I got the new s23 ultra. 512gb msrp $1400. If homeless guy answered I would be happy to throw him a nice reward.

Quick reminder. Most new iPhones will qualify as a felony because of their price.

Drop off at nearest police station with a report.. It's happen more than once the people reported stolen phone and drivers found with them.

The spectrum of answers covers everything from throwing it out the window, arranging for a return meet-up through Uber, to arranging for a return meet-up outside of Uber.

interesting outlook considering it wasn't stolen it was left behind and it hasn't been requested for return by anyone. forms of theft usually requires intent and considering there's no way to know who the owner is, at least without some effort, and there's been no request for it to be returned I don't think you would meet the element of intentionally depriving an owner of their property in this circumstance unless perhaps you sold it and there was a record of you selling it

The Supreme Court would find you guilty.
