What type of cars are you guys driving? UberX here and not finding this worth my time.

Just received a text from Uber congratulating me for driving with them for a year.
I drive UberX. Driving a 2011 Prius which am still paying off. I'm finding these $1 a mile fare ridiculous. With that pay off you are basically earning ~50c a mile after you factor in the miles it takes you to get to your pax and back home. So in order to earn 50k you would have to drive around 75-100k miles which is basically what most gas engines lifetime is. How does this make sense when most cars are ~$20k

I just don't understand how there are people on brand new SUVs driving uber x.

I think what we as drivers need is to form a movement or group of individuals here in LA to make moves and bring our earning back up to a more stable and worthwhile fares.

We could also form a group in Zello app to stay in touch while we drive.


Also what else do you guys do beside this?
I was working Valet parking before but that ended so I'm just doing this for now.

Smart driver, take surges to make it worthwhile, Have a real income.

I don't understand how people do it either, my effective rate is about $1.4/mile due to surges, but that seems to be coming to an end due to the infrequent occurrence of surges nowadays. I have 3 cars and only drive 2 of them, my 06 prius with 250k miles and a Nissan leaf.

If you don't have a hybrid, or better yet a Prius because most other hybrids either cost too much or get sucky gas mileage, your basically spending 10-15 % on gas and Uber takes 20 to 25% and maintenance and miscellaneous expenses(car wash, tickets, eating out) is about 3-5%, leaving you with only 67 to 55% of the fare.

Yup....look around and read some of the other threads and you will see you are spot on and a bit late to the party...

Casino patrons, like people going to events like the Rosebowl, almost always go a good distance.

I was a dice dealer in the casino, but that's a damn good idea. I'm going to try your suggestion when I go to the casinos in 2 weeks, and these people normally tip. Thanks!
