This week's balls up by Uber is not me being deactivated because their system accuses me of not having uploaded a photo of the back seat of my car. Nor are they telling me that my drivers license, which expires in 2018, has in fact expired. Nor have they fired me by text message, or sent the "No, not really" follow-up text a couple of hours later.

No... this week's serving of frustration saw them help themselves all of a sudden to a commission of 25% of my earnings instead of the agreed 20%.

It might be an idea to check your pay statements for last week...

An hour after emailing them I've already got back the "Sorry for the confusion; I'll be happy to explain..." copy-and-paste template response. Duly batted it back to them as usual and am now waiting for reply #2.

This is deeply troubling for multiple reasons:
  1. Uber jacked up it's commission from 20% to 25%.
  2. New Drivers are now obviously being onboarded at 25% commission in your market.
UberX Commission For New Drivers Is Now 25% In These Markets
  3. Uber imposed the higher 25% commission on a Driver who had been onboarded under the 20% commission structure.
San Francisco UberX Drivers who started before 09/02/14, are you paying 25% commission now?

What was their generic excuse behind taking %25 commish?
"As of September 2, 2014, all newly activated Partners using their own personally insured vehicles on the Uber platform will have a 25% commission rate. If you have any additional questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to let us know and someone from our team would be happy to assist."
