I am somewhat new to the forums - I lurk but don't post. But in the past few months I haven't come across a thread about the declining of potential rides. Only largest fare, tip, etc.

Anyway, mine was on New Year's Eve (Day at this point). I started driving around 7:30 PM and was cleaning up pretty well for the whole night. Requests were coming in 10 minutes in advance and by midnight I was able to pick and choose based on the limited drivers and activities for that night.

But after 2 AM when I told myself I was done; I was getting tired and was 40 minutes from home I get a ride request for something 45+ minutes away with a 4.6 surge. I can only assume the ride was into Philadelphia, I had ended up in Chester County by this point. But I had to decline because as I already stated I was getting drowsy and didn't feel comfortable making that trip on a night full of drunks only to bus myself back to Lancaster.

Most likely the person would've canceled or played some game when I picked them up. Which is what I keep telling myself. But I wanted to hear about other drivers and what they declined or left on the table.

New years eve a few years back... picked up a ping at 2x surge. This was before the 45+ min notification. PAX gets in, I swipe.... it says "Boston"
That's a 2 hour ride from Portland. His buddies ditched him and he said there were no hotels rooms available. I had the fuel in my tank. But after 10 hours of driving? I didn't have the fuel in me. I brought him to a safe location with other drivers around me and waited until someone accepted his new request.... I just couldn't see deadheading 2 hours home at 5AM... payout woulda been awesome.... until I see the upfront pricing on a ride like that now would only cost me $140.... ($280 with 2x surge) and would paid me close to $150 I assume... I think I made the right decision.

Last year, the day of or the day after the shooting at the Fort Lauderdale airport I got a request from or near the Palm Beach airport. The guy called me almost immediately, he was stranded in West Palm and needed to get to be in Atlanta in 18 hours or something like that. He couldn't drive, so a rental car was out. Couldn't find a flight, couldn't risk stand by, there were no charters available... dude was desperate.

Everything was a mess weather cancelled flights, booked flights. Nothing out of Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jax..

Uber's estimate was like $1300.00 or something like that, he offered that amount in cash, plus the fare, gas and food.

I couldn't get anyone to watch my kids so I had to turn it down. I would have countered his offer of course and I'm I got the impression he would have taken a decent offer.

I was bummed for a while buy later convinced myself that it was probably for the best, I'm not really sure I believe that but...

If i drive straight through, I would have made over well over $100hr for the round trip.

I have transported plenty of obese pax. Regardless of their size, I will not cancel.

I do not know. My Uber experience was limited to an island.

I don't feel I declined anything I would regret 6 months later though. You need to make like the movie Frozen and let it go.;)
Awesome line! I will be using it. Hope you don't mind.

Damn, another one I would love to have. Have not had any requests longer than about 90 minutes,

As a part timer, I would love to get a chance to do a huge trip like that and have a great one day payday!

One time i declined a $140 payout fare, NO SURGE! AT ORLANDO RATES!

Orlando to Miami 236 miles. (plus 236 miles return trip)

I aint driving 472 miles for $140 (Orlando rates at the all time low of 48c a mile 8c a minute)

At the time i couldn't pick up in Miami either. So no hopscotch back to orlandoish either.

Long ago I started screenshotting EVERY Uber and Lyft ping with a surge over 1.3x. I don't want to accept, give a ride, then be told that it was base. When you try to get paid right, it helps if you have proof.

One time I got a 4.8x, which is HUGE for my market. As I grab my phone from the holder, my thumb accidentally hits the No Thanks button. Argh!!!

You may wish to start screenshotting the ride details page after you've accepted instead of incoming ping. It's displayed there too, and what I do.

Ive learned a long time ago.. Never regret the ones you dont accept..
Dont waste your time of the could have beens.

Regret the ones you accept. :)

I had finished up a 10hr night shift. Headed home. Forgot i had uber still on. I was about 5min. From home...Got a ping..(3am) saw it was at an applebees..figured..screw it.. Ill do it. There prob. Heading home nearby..maybe 15min ride tops..turn off and head home. Shouldnt be but maybe 10miles from home. Cause... wHO travels 2hrs to go to an apple bees???

Welp.. Thats what happened.
Picked up 2 1/2 way drunk chicks. (They were really funny)

Dropped one off 30min. East of the applebees...

Dropped the other off 1 1/2 hrs. West of the the applebees. (She came to visit her friend.

It was something like 5am fore i dropped her off. I was sooo tired.
Just found a private spot..laid the seatback and zonked out for 3hrs. Then.. Drove home and slept some more.

It was worth the extra pay for the night. Put me at over 300 for the night! But still. Kinda regret it. Just cause.. It was a saturday and i had made my money for the week. I just wanted sleep *_+

Moral is. Never assume anything about where youll end up after you pickup unless its a destination trip.

Yes, it was a busy time that night. But you always wonder about the one that got away.

Can do that with Uber, but Lyft does not show surge (or rating) after acceptance. One shot at it.

I actually just said out loud "OH MY GOD NO!" after reading this comment! I'd be pissed!

I didn't actually "turn down" the ride, I cancelled after a 5 minute No Show.

It was already 11:30 at night and I had work at 7:30am, I may have turned it down once I found out. But I reviewed the ending location when I cancelled and it ended up being an hour and a half into NYC, like far beyond the city. Would have been been between $100-120, which would have been nice, but over 45 minutes in the city, I cannot pick up. So it would have been dead miles regardless heading home.
