I will be getting my TLC license next month. I am deciding what car should I buy for the job. I was interested in lexus ES 300h or Prius but not sure if there are enough UberBlack (ES300h) demand in NYC to make up my cost. How about Prius?would you recommend?

Get a prius. Dont invest so much money on a Lexus because you would have to do uberx calls aswell. I also heard it can take up to 3 months to get your TLC license

The only major repair reported for this vehicle is the battery between 200 and 350000 miles. The engine starts to burn oil somewhere after 250,000 miles some people report, but thats manageable.

It is very difficult to sell a car over 100,000 miles so my advice to Mad Max is to drive the thing until the wheels fall off. If the battery needs replacing from 200,000 to 350,000 than I would advise going to www.car-part.com and finding a used battery from a new vehicle OR getting a reconditioned battery off the internet. I would not buy it new. If the car does start to burn oil somewhere around 250,000 miles to manage it the best you can without sinking money. More frequent oil checks.

Once he crosses 100,000 miles he wont be able to sell it so just keep driving it.

He did pick the most ideal vehicle for the job. The only negatives about it is it takes 10 seconds to accelerate 0 to 60 and it doesnt look anything close to a luxury car, but if he can deal with that he is fine. Just drive it until the wheels fall off as he WONT be able to sell it.

"With 32 Prius taxis operating in his Cairns, Queensland fleet of Black and White Taxis, owner Graham Boundy knows the truth about high-mileage hybrids - and it's surprisingly good. Each car racks up about 200,000km (125,000mi) each year. Two of the older examples have managed a lifespan of 350,000km (218,000mi) and 550,000km (341,000mi) before needing replacement of their nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The only problem even at the end of their battery pack service life was a low voltage reading. The cars have been in service since September, 2005, and Bounds has ordered another 8 to bring his fleet total to 40."

Here is a 394,000 mile Prius which was always serviced at Hackensack Toyota in NJ and as you can see from the Carfax...no mechanical repairs.
