I remember reading an article once about why, at least for the working class, the lottery was not such a dumb gamble after all. Basically the logic was that while the odds of that $1 or $2 you spent turning into millions is astronomical, the odds of a member of the working class achieving that kind of wealth by any other means was even more remote.
In the 90's I won $5,000 dollars because my raisen brand had overdried raisens, it was part of a promotion, they filled some boxes with the dry raisen and on then inside of the box was printed with the notice that you one 5,000
