I've been watching George's videos for a few years now. He's one of the most unintentional yet inspirational people I've ever had the privilege of seeing online. As I watch this video, I wonder if my perspective on privacy has been slightly skewed by my Western view on what I deserve...

We have all unintentionally giving away our privacy through the use of apps. At least in China, forfeiting privacy has saved millions if not billions of lives.

During this pandemic, I ponder, what am I willing to give up to ensure my family and friends and Community are safe? I believe I'd be willing to give up everything to ensure my kids are safe.

I'd really like to hear your thoughts, is privacy worth dying for?

When it comes to children we'd give up everything. No question.

The one thing I would like to point out right now is that what we are being asked to give up is really minimal for most people.

Ok so we have to socially isolate. However in history there has never been a time where we have more resources to help us get through it.

Privacy is fine. They can track me in my living room the next few weeks/months.

As far as my "freedoms". Well I'm willing to curtail my freedom of movement if it means people won't die (including myself) Anyone who disagrees, just ask yourself how much "Freedom!" you can have when you're dead.

This is the ultimate test of the humanity of the populace. It's the ultimate test for our government.

We have a choice to sacrifice for the short/medium term in order to save ourselves from a greater catastrophe.

Those who don't adhere to these safeguards must be called out and face punishment for risking the lives of others.

Privacy is worth dying for.
The last minute of that video, where he literally cannot criticize anything except elliptically, is more terrifying to me than the virus.
I'm happy to sacrifice and comply for the greater ease of society. That is my choice, and it is a rational choice.
But the 'tell me what to think and not to think' and not let me voice to my friends privately, my thoughts and ideas, without fear of the state putting me in jail. That is scary stuff kids. I'm grateful to live in Canada, where we strike the balance between China & USA pretty good. I'm not a fan of either model, but the mushy middle in this case.
