For those of you who drive for both Uber and Lyft - are you like me ? Do you chat up the Uber pax and ask if they have tried Lyft yet ?

I make it my mission to share my Lyft referral code (for pax! Moderators calm down - I haven’t strung together the series of bad words to get me in trouble here with soliciting other drivers !!) with every Uber pax I get.

I’m guessing 3/4 of my Uber pax accept my elevator speech about the benefits of choice for customers - checking both apps and choosing whoever has the better rate or closer car - and of course don’t forget the 20 dollar credit meaning your first 4 rides will be cheaper with Lyft.

Who else has a polished really effective pitch chat ? I’ve honed mine over the months and it is very conversational and natural - not used car salesman-ish. I’d guess I get 2 to 3 referral fees for new pax to Lyft each week. It’s great. Free money.

I was doing this and even have the Lyft referral cards with my code on them, but only about the first 3 of them I gave out were actually used. Since then I've gone through another 80 or so and never received a credit so I've stopped bothering.

Respectfully - I think you're doing it wrong. Although I love the card aspect.

Here's how I do it. When I've had the organic chat back and forth about my experience with the two companies and how great competition is for the the consumer and it being win/win If they have two apps to choose from - seeing who has the closest car and the better rate - here's how I do it.

Either at a red light or once I'm dropping them off I say "hey so do you want me to send you that link with the 20 dollar ride credit ?" They say yes normal. I then grab my phone - open Lyft - and click on the tab to send it to them by text. I ask what number they'd like the link sent to - and I send it to them right then and there. At that point they thank me and I tell them they just set it up on their phone the exact same way they set up Uber and it operates very similar.

That's it. I often see a referral bonus later that day or week as they've taken their first Lyft as a pax. I'm telling you this is free money. I get 2 - 3 or these a week. Minimum. Little effort.

I was going to print out cards with codes on them.... but I will try that, thanks Kev. Your approach seems easier and no need to pay for cards.

I think it’s such an easy discussion to have. Because you’re positioning it in a way that you are entirely doing them the favour.

...texting and driving is illegal. Not worth a $195 distracted driving ticket???? LOL.

I am posting to screen captures from my phone. You will see on the first image it is the menu that comes up when you click on that button bottom right of your Lyft home page that says earn $500. Do you see that there are two dogs I have circled on the first page that comes up? You need to swipe left if you are on an iPhone to get to a second option

The second image I have uploaded is what comes up after you swipe left and find your second option. That's where you send text or email directly to your Uber passengers to refer them as a new Lyft passenger

Oh look. Haven’t driven a minute yet this week but I’m already up 10 bucks thanks to my Lyft pax referrals. Love this so much. With such little effort you can create a constant revenue stream. Wooooooo

You can make up several personal codes to use too. I got a few hits each week back when they first came to town. I got tired of the cold and by the time summer came around I just could careless.

I did 3 the other day. One person wasn't even talking, out of nowhere, I'm like "so you also do lyft?no?, here put your phone number, you can try lyft, they give cupons, free rides".

Then the pax have a string of $5 coupons which they use, you as a driver get the 4 min ping which turns out to be 7to 9 min with their navigation and the ride is so short you make $3-4 . I’ve called lyft and asked why their navigation is so far off and their answer is if we put 9 min on your screen nobody gets picked up. I don’t give out my lyft code to uber pax.
