Weekend guarantees are like getting drunk, it feels good for a while, but you have to deal with the hangover the next day. Weekend guarantees give you a short term fix, short term gratification, but a rate increase will benefit you in the long run. Hold your ground, and be unapologetic about wanting a rate increase. XL, Select, UberBlack/SUV be firm in not wanting to be required to accept UberX request. This is the real win-win for all.

Uber would stand to gain far more by LOWERING the guarantee fares and RAISING the rates.

Higher rates = drivers are incentivized to be on the road.
Lower guarantees = drivers have a fallback if they have a bad hour.

For example, if UberX rates were $1.25/mile, which is still 30% less per mile than a taxi, and guarantees were $15/hour. If you had a shit hour and only got 2 minimum fares of $6 -- the guarantee would at least boost that up slightly to remove some of the sting.

This would also solve the problem of people just working the bare minimum to qualify for guarantees (who's going to go out of their way for $15/hour before Uber's cut?).

A guarantee should only be in place to help protect drivers from a string of bad luck -- it should not be something drivers use as the basis of their earnings.

I clicked on the link but it didn't show the guarantee rates or hours, just said it was too late to opt in, lol.
