Just drove through an area Uber charging riders surge over 2X while only paying drivers $4.00 flat. Problem is drivers are taking rides unbeknownst what uber is charging. Of course Uber's excuse is that drivers get paid miles and time. But meantime Uber is gouging riders on backs of drivers. No passenger will tip at those rates and highly likely will give a low rating to driver.
Be smart, check what uber charges riders and act accordingly. Decline until uber increases surge to drivers in proportion to what they charge riders.
With an app where drivers can communicate real-time drivers can alert each other.

And while you do that, 10 more ants will clear their background checks and snatch those rides.

Stop focusing on what the pax pays. Instead, fight for higher rates for drivers. NYC TLC did it. Other states are investigating.

Agree that many more will join and submit. Also that of course fight for higher rates. However, complacency and relying on politicians to act in favor of drivers may not be effective since Uber has huge lobbing power.
There are other ways. Fire with fire. Find their weaknesses.
Uber's business model is futile and they know it. They're just buying time squeezing drivers going into IPO to capitalize, pay investors, and eventually displace drivers with AI.
Trust me there's other ways. There's already a model in progress that will give drivers ? % yet platform is profitable.
It's coming.

That already exists. Go to your closest city forum and inquire. There are some organized phone app groups. Runs on your phone like a walkie talkie. Many of those groups are closely guarded but ask. A long time ago organized groups would try to create surges by banding together to decline rides. Nowadays there are so many Ants that would be futile.

I was invited to join one in my area. Tried it and found it highly annoying, distracting, and not useful so I quickly deleted it. However, as @SuzeCB said, don't focus on that.

It can be, to be sure. I was in a group that used Zello. I would quiet it when pax got in the car.

It's a good idea though. Nice thing about Zello is it records what you say, so if you go offline you can catch up when you get back. You can stay online while doing the confirm thing with the pax about name and destination so your group has access to it, just in case anything happens. This way there's someone in real time that knows the approximate time they should hear from you again. Nice extra layer of safety. Just be discreet. Pax will NOT like the idea of you sharing their destination with unknown people! LOL

Most drivers are not on the top of the bell curve. It's a noble thought. I have done this with small groups of drivers and created a whatsapp group. I will send out messages like, get ready for surge in downtown, logoff your apps, park, wait. Large surge, logon, you are welcome.

The Paris Taxi Union is so strong that Uber got knocked down a bit in France. In some municipalities it was banned outright. I have trouble understanding how public officials can be bought out by an evil corporation like uber and so clearly ignore the well-being of their communities, but then, that’s life in big-city America.
