On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Toronto Police Service Traffic Services, 9 Hanna Avenue, between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., the Toronto Police Service will launch "That Text or Call Could End It All," safety campaign.

This safety campaign will start on Monday, February 20, 2017, and finish on Sunday, February 26, 2017.

This one-week initiative will highlight all dangerous activities associated with drivers who talk, text, type, dial or email using hand-held communication and entertainment devices. This campaign will incorporate the use of a hearse and both stealth and fully marked police vehicles.

All police officers will be paying special attention to those drivers who choose to drive while distracted. Distracted driving is any action that a driver engages in that takes their focus away from the safe operation of their vehicle. It includes, but is not limited to, the use of hand-held communication and entertainment devices. Distracted drivers are a safety risk to themselves and other road-users. The Toronto Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety of everyone using the roads in and around our city.

The use of hand-held communication and entertainment devices while driving is known to distract drivers from driving safely. Legislation is in place which has created specific offences for this driving behaviour.

Since 2011 the Toronto Police Service has laid over 109,000 charges for offences related to distracted driving.

WARNING - Toronto Police are hunting Uber Drivers

In fact TPS is not "hunting" for uber drivers. They are "hunting" for distracted driver. The police sit on the highway ramps looking for the drivers doing their makeup, eating their morning cereal, holding onto their phones, driving without their setbelts.

Hands free does not mean holding your phone while talking on the speakerphone. The phone must be mounted to the vehicle.

I can say as a fact that I have sat beside a police officer T light and accepted a "ping" by touching the phone without incident. My phone is mounted....

Be safe out there...pull over to make a call. They are not chasing uber.... they are targeting all the distracted drivers that make driving unsafe.

Cheers,

Just be smart. Distracted driving even applies to changing the radio. It is still possible to be charged even if you are stopped.
Not necessarily. As long as you are looking dead ahead and know what's going on, you can use your other hand to adjust the radio. That is assuming you have a firm grasp of getting your radio stations that you want to listen easily.

Just to remind everyone, touching your phone or any device is not illegal. LOOKING DOWN or at it, is.

CAUTION!!!!! Don't accept Select of XL pings as those are spoof pings that are being sent out by cops when they are following you in undercover cars. My insider information is that they don't do it to Pool pings, Justification is that they know that XL and Select drivers can afford the measly 495.00 ticket so that is their target . REMEMBER: Select and XL pings are entrapment tricks so disregard them.. Don't say I didn't warn you!!!!!

This is terrible, I appreciate what you have all done for me here so don't accept these, I'll do it and take it for the team. Even select and I don't have a select vehicle.
