W.6th and police

I have been Ubering for 1.5 years and usually, police, despite their mean demeanor when it comes to pick up and drop off on West 6th is tricky. Usually, police flash lights at you to move but hearing lately, they have been ticketing drivers. Not to mention them blocking, making it very difficult to drop off and pick up Riders. Not to mention Riders can be very difficult in not understanding about not able to pick up at their exact location, as to making Riders walk distance to meet us. I had drop off at Dive Bar last night. W. Lakeside had parked cars, so drop off there was no good. Police were in front of Liquid, with two cars. I pulled up behind one of them, clearing the crosswalk, to quickly drop off, as other drivers were doing the same, picking and dropping off. As soon as I stopped, officer jumped out his vehicle in front of me, running to my door with his flashlight, screaming for my license. I have him my license and he goes around back of my car. Then he tells me to pull up in front of his car. I moved my car, gathering paperwork for him. While I am waiting for him, two other police officers, separately, harassed me to move my car, with one screaming at me as he falsely accused me parking in middle of W.6th and I inched the car closer to curb to satisfy officer. The first officer comes back to my car, no questions asked to me, had the ticket already written out. He asked one question to add my response to written ticket, "Who is this for?" I told him Uber. Then he did "By signing ticket" speech, I signed. I asked him what was it for and his reply was "Obstructing crosswalk." I asked if this was waivable, he did not answer me and proceeded to give ticket and telling me there is no stopping on W 6th on Fridays and Saturdays and walked off. Fortunately, I have all of this on video to dispute his trumped up charge of obstructing and behavior. But when I got a chance to read the ticket, to my horror, he put no chauffeur, no livery as well which is a misdeamnor and required to appear in court. I am beside myself right now.. I cannot afford this let alone a good attorney. Has anyone gone through this? I am afraid this won't be good for me. I have zero points, no accidents, no tickets.. I cannot afford any of this period.

If you go to court and plead not guilty they will give you the opportunity to talk to the prosecutor. They will offer you one citation with no points.. $226 total cost. If you don't take the deal you can go to your next court appearance and hope the cop doesn't show. If he no shows you walk with no cost. If he shows you can probably still get out with no points but costs will be higher.

Thank you, hope you are right.
I had this thing happen to me about two years ago. I explained to the cop that I'm Uber and I didn't need livery plates etc. he gave me a ticket for not having a "hack license" and having high beams on. I wrote to Uber with a picture of ticket. They jumped on this right away. They have a lawyer in Cleveland that defends this situation. I never had to appear in court. The lawyer took care of everything. Never paid for high beams ticket either. The lawyer will contact you. Another time they were going to give me a ticket for obstructing traffic at 230 AM during the week no one was behind or in front of me. I told him before he writes a ticket I need to take a couple of pics forward and back. He didn't write the ticket. NEVER go on 6th. Call the people before you get there tell them to meet you at blue point. If they won't tell them to cancel ride. There were shots fired Friday night and I'm sure that added to tensions

Thanks. This officer wasn't allowing me to speak as he kept screaming at me for my license and said nothing as to why he jumped at me or even questioned before writing up ticket. I thought it was bad idea to tell Uber you got ticket? I don't want to lose my access since this is my full time gig. I usually do call Riders to meet me elsewhere when can't access W.6th but it was around midnight, dropping off..never had real issue until now.
Also HB 237 in Ohio legislature was passed last year. It regulates rideshare. It's been taken out of the cities jurisdictions. When Michael sees this I'm sure he can clarify this for you.

Oh that is wonderful..now I see why he didn't say about the no livery, no chauffeur carp to me then.. Thank you!
I wrote to Uber immediately when I got home. The rest of story is after he wrote ticket he would not let me pick up rider. If I did he would arrest me for "not following a direct order of a policeman" this was bullshit the rider phone was dead he had to get back to independence and it was REALLY cold that winter. When they come behind you and flash they're lights just move. On prospect Euclid I always call a few mins before I arrive and ask pax to be out and ready. They know about situation with the cops. Doing this helps me get another 4 or 5 rides. If you save 3-4 mins on pickups and you do 20 rides that adds up to 60-80 extra mins to pickup.

Trust me, had experience with police on 6th, always been polite, moved when asked, called Riders ahead of time, like picking up at Barley, etc. to get them ready to jump in or to meet me elsewhere if 6th is blocked. Been doing this for 1.5 years. But this was when I was dropping off. Never had issue till now. Thank you so much for your help!!! I am breathing easier and possibly get some sleep as I didn't get any last night..i ended up going home early, right after getting ticket.. jerk of a cop. Sorry to hear your troubles too..it is bs..i am thankful to you for helping me!

Teach1 did Uber change policy about tickets? I went to look to file report but that link or button is not on app and I went into dashboard, and it's stated "I received a ticket" Drivers are expected to follow the rules of the road. As a driver-partner, you are personally responsible for any violation of traffic laws, local regulations or restrictions. We are unable to assist with any moving violation, parking citation, airport requirement/restriction citation, or till evasion ticket you receive." Ok, I am screwed.

Teach1 I also found this..
I received a regulatory ticket
Drivers are expected to follow the rules of the road. As a driver-partner, you are personally responsible for any violation of traffic laws. Please settle any moving violation, parking citation, or toll evasion ticket that you receive.

If you received a regulatory ticket during this trip, please share details with us here." So, does this mean they will basically boot me off and not help then? Because by sounds of it, it's pointless to report it.

When livery etc was written on ticket that's a regulatory issue I might still have a copy of ticket written. I'll see if I can find lawyers name
also. All this was written on one ticket correct??

I thought a cop who was directing traffic told me to proceed. When I did he screamed at me and directed me off course to the side from Carnegie heading east during a baseball game. I did as told without a word. My riders were like, "That was ridiculous! You did nothing wrong." I told them that I know their job is shitty. They don't want to be doing it. I'll get you to the game. Kept calm. They tipped me extra because I kept my cool. I know lots of cops. I know they can be total dicks sometimes, especially in the Warehouse district or on Prospect. I comply with whatever they tell me even if it means losing a ride. They don't really care that we are taking drunk drivers off the road and that is wrong on their part. Never argue with a cop. You lose every time.

Teach1 yes, written on one ticket.. have ORC code and ORD code. I greatly appreciate it! I did submit to Uber, hopefully I'll hear from them. Czervik7.. I agree with you.. I was very respectful to him, complied but he was very angry towards me. I didn't want to further piss him off despite the b.s. and his buddies did to me. All that is on video.

Take the ticket to the Uber office and ask them for representation. The ticket is b******* and Uber will contest in court for you. State law Trump's any city regulations and has for more than a year. HB 237
I always BlTCH at the cop that tickets me. Being polite to them is worthless for me. Sometimes they let me go sometimes they don't.

I might just do that. Thanks!

I tried asking but he wouldn't answer. It's wasn't a routine stop as normally police would be cordial in asking questions to you before as part of "investigating", tell you why you are stopped but that didn't take place at all. He was angry to begin with..i didn't want to piss him off further as he was clearly agitated to begin with. I have been pulled over before and police just verbally warned or I have kindly disputed with them but this is in other cities, just letting me go. As for Cleveland, they always tell at you, not at all like other police departments.

When this happened to me there was an office at agora with very limited hrs. Michael is right take to office. Checking my emails with Ed Patton he contacted me within a few days. Handled everything. No court. I was going to go but he handled it.

Thank you! Unfortunately, Office was no help at all. She was saying what do you want us to do.. As she wasn't very informative at all. I explained to her situation and what other drivers had gone through. Dropped Ed Patton's name, told her I filled out report but Support hasn't responded yet as 13 hours ago. She told me that Cleveland Office doesn't handle or have Ed Patton's contact and I would have to wait for Support to respond as they handle situations like these.. and it's through them they would set up with Patton. So I am still worried...

Yep you nailed it once again Mike.
