I recently purchased a new car. Here's how I transferred my plates.
1. Soon as I got the registration for the new car. I went to the DMV and transferred the new plates I got from the dealer to my 2019 sonata. I transferred my TLC plates to the new car.
2. Here's the cool part! No trip at all to the TLC office. I used the fhvtransfers@tlc.nyc.gov email address. I attached the the tlc vehicle transfer form, my dmv license, tlc license, commercial insurance, certificate of liability, and mv82 (transfer plate) 1 business day later received an email asking me to login to LARS and pay the $25 transfer fee. Only $25 because the car has like 40 miles on it. Received my tlc inspection for new decals/diamonds today. KEWL.

- sent new car registration, bill of sale, and commercial registration to american transit
- american transit sent me updated policy with new car having commercial registration
- I filled out 2 MV 82 forms (change registration)
- took both registrations
- dmv printed commercial registration for new car ($10 fee)
- dmv printed regular registration for my sonata ($10 fee)
