I blew my February Uber earnings on trip to Vegas this week. Thank you very much. I took Uber from home to IAH with very nice and cordial driver. Cudos to the Houston group! When I got to Vegas, I couldn't find the Uber pick-up spot at the airport because I was impatient to get the hotel, so I took a Yellow Cab. The taxi trip was $20 plus the $5 tip. The Vegas Yellow driver told me that Uber and Lyft are really cutting into the taxi business in Vegas. Nevertheless, I waited in a line of well over 200 people catching taxis at McCarran airport.

On the return trip, I found the Uber pick-up spot at the hotel, and the trip from the hotel to the airport was only $10 plus the $5 tip. Half price from the Yellow Cab! I chatted with the Vegas Uber driver, who had been working Vegas for some time. According to him, he only has to wait 15 minutes at the airport for rides, but they are all short runs to the Strip. He told me that he makes $120 a day working 5-6 hours looping around the airport. Working nights in Vegas is crazy busy, according to Mr. Vegas Uber. He had plenty of puke bags in the car, so read between the lines.

While I was walking around the Strip, people were handing out cards for discount Lyft rides. I saw plenty of Lyft cars driving around, but I saw more Uber.

Read some time ago in LV subforum that many casinos are pretty hostile to uber & lyft, not letting them pickup at casino entrances. Strong taxi union. A while ago, this may have changed.

Doubtful that it changed. If Uber or Lyft actually brought change to the markets that they enter, then it would be more likely that things would change. Eventually taxis will take back the turf once Uber and Lyft run out of money, which hopefully will be soon, since they're both sad disgusting greedy losers.

For starters, taxi and casinos have always been run by mobsters in a town like Vegas right?

The taxi union made sure to put the pick up location for uber in a hard to find spot. Vegas is very confusing. Been there, done that.
