Just been reading what US drivers were saying about the virus, easy to see how wrong people can be with hindsight!

Don't tell that to some members here. Their crystal ball is telling us otherwise.

The US had 2770 reported cases on 14th March.
It now has 104000 reported on 28th March.
I believe the reason is twofold.
1-US never started testing seriously until.this week.
2- The epicentre in US is New York which is still coming out of winter.
We have 3700 cases at moment so if we follow US pattern we should br 40 fold at end of 2 weeks.
I will.be shocked if that happens.

I agree with you. Some more points below to help you out too:
3. We have universal health care, resulting in over 2 times the number of medical visits per capita. Health care is widely accessible to all here. Surely this helps to encourage the point you made about testing.
4. The boarder to NYC remains open. Apart from the VIc/NSW borders, our state boarders are closed, despite the must lower infection rates here.
5. Population density is much lower in Australia, than the US at a national level. At a city level, no city in Australia compares with NYC.
6. There is no universal self quarantine mandate for international travellers arriving in the US.
Aren't you glad you live in Australia? I am glad to see that you are now not outright dismissing community health fears now though. So that is encouraging.

Just watched sky news UK and guy had some interesting stats to question whether economic effects will be far greater on fatalities than virus effect.
Presenter stated that during GFC where 121 million people lost their jobs, additional 260,000 deaths due to cancer and 10,000 suicides.
There were 600,000 deaths in UK last year with 14000 attributable to seasonal flu-Covid 19 has only had 1000 deaths so far in UK and it is just coming out of winter.
The debate is now switching on some media re the economic effects of shutdowns on people's welfare/health to actually getting the virus.
Germany is testing half a million people per week and their mortality rate is 0,6.
Tom Hanks and his wife despite both being over 60 have fully recovered and flown back to US(only tested positive 2 weeks ago)
Boris Johnson,fellow politicians,Prince Charles,NBA stars etc et. and a raft of high profile people have got virus and it comes back as they are experiencing mild symptoms.
Can I ask you a simple question-how many new cases will be have in Australia in 2/3 weeks

The world leaders + experts are fecking dumb, they committed trillions of dollars for this Corona which is much less harmful than a regular cold flu viruses. Those stupid people rule the world while, intellectually intelligent people with tertiary degrees, drive for Uber. The world is fecked up.

No cycle on Uber eats.
You can't beat the herd mentality.
When working as accountant in business my boss said my biggest strength was that I question things-challenge the assumptions as she put it.

How many daily cases then in 3 weeks from today in Australia.
We are running at about 400 now with 70% coming from Intl arrivals and community infections from them.
Going by doom and gloom merchants like u,we are going to be overrun by volume of cases based on u following the herd and blinded by media hype.
We are now quarantining all Intl arrivals in hotels for 14 days so this source of community transmissions now stopped in it's tracks.
Finally sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and that is why normally do not react/ reply to it.

Yes, I read Tom and Rita are back in the US. They travelled on a private jet. I did not hear that they have fully recovered. If so, I guess they are back in the general population then?
You are the expert, not me. I am not the one arguing against the advice and evidence from world leaders, the medical community and epidemiologists. Its up to you to put forward evidence to support your case that goes against those that have dedicated their careers to this stuff, not me.
Let me just say this though. Two weeks ago Scotty from Marketing was saying he would be at the football. Then just a week later he is scathing people for sitting in the sand on Bondi Beach (many of whom did not appear to be in close contact with others). I think that if even a populist conservative prime minister can change his stance, its ok for you to acknowledge its ok to do the same.
Unrelated - but apparently China has now closed the borders to non citizens. Kind of ironic given the grief they gave the world only a few weeks ago from excluding them from travelling into foreign countries.

I am not the expert but do follow the data,age profile of deaths,testing regimes in various countries and level of panic/General population.
If I am wrong and this equate to as bad as Scott says and we are in this situation for another 6 months then I will be wiped out is stock market.
I think our point of difference is u have a lot higher opinion of Scott politicians,WHO and media than me and I don't necessarily believe unless I can see it backed up by the data-that is the accountant in me.

I seen so many big mouths from 2 weeks ago who are piveting in the last week. On this forum and in real life. From the start I didn't say too much and always was saying don't act doom and gloom but also stop being like it's nothing either. It's very funny watching these people trying to changing the narrative about themselves in real time 😂
My position exactly the same as statt but in fairness didn't see us closing international airports and that cost me money in qantas shares

May I ask if those you live with are wearing the masks that your partner purchased a few weeks ago? If so, I would probably be going crazy to if I lived with someone with polarising views on this issue as well
