Upfront pricing realization

Upfront pricing came to help us realize that we don’t make any money. How can you make money if you do a trip of 84 minutes 31 mile and only getting paid $38.28. This is insane. Pricing should be based on traffic also. Come on Uber! w

Isn't gas $8 a gallon there? You're working for free guys.
... When autonomous vehicles become prevalent, a driver contractor who is currently operating a single vehicle will be able to own, operate and maintain several autonomous vehicles.
Just as it is now, operators will be paid for the use of the cars, but Uber will not be responsible for any of the costs or liabilities when something goes wrong.
That is an interesting idea. I was wondering how Uber would be able to maintain a fleet of driverless cars and afford the insurance and maintenance costs... Dealing with loss of life, accidents... keeping the cars clean. Really the only way they could survive that model would be to have other people own the cars... They would be ass raped too.

You are leaving one busy area and traveling to another busy area that trip would a possible tip is acceptable it's way more acceptable than most of the Cheapo trips we get offered.

YOU HAVE TO COME BACK
Empty? The whole way back to the pick-up location? Why? Who drives with the utterly silly strategy of always returning to the pick-up location after every drop-off?

Clarification: In MY market long trips always result in deadhead back. I'm in a small college town in the middle of nowhere. Yes, I do try to use destination mode to get back but successes are very limited doing that. So generally, I avoid long trips unless they pay really well (which most often they don't).

Trips that stay IN my market, no, of course I don't have to return to the same location.

good lord read the whole thread, I have clarified several times that in MY market any long trip = deadhead back. i did not realize that may not be the case for the OP or others... MIA FUKKING CULPA!!!!!!
Who do you think is currently funding the Uber cars? Third-party operators (aka Drivers).

So you think when Rideshare goes fully autonomous that they're still going to be money to be made, here's what I think I predict is going to happen, every Mary, Dick and Harry with a driverless car will be able to download an Uber app, assign the hours that they wish to release their car to Uber and our Lyft or whatever service is doing the rideshare and they'll probably be paid less than half we get now, what is my brain working for this, someone who owns a Tesla which needs very little maintenance to begin with not going to care if you're only getting 30 40 50 cents a mile on their car the only ones who are going to care if they don't like the fact that the mileage is going up on their car and the fact they have to buy tires more often,

I can see it now "Uber Auto Drive App" download the app to your phone do a small update to your Tesla car you're ready to go ready to make that money..lol
when rideshare goes fully autonomous lmao

1st of all if that ever happens it'll be least 2035

2nd its NOT ride"share" never was NEVER will be

anyone using that term is perpetuating the FRAUD, its a taxi cab RIDES FOR HIRE
no ones sharing anything past kiddiegarden

3rd
you have to be a complete moron to use a 50K+ car as a cab LMAO
even if these things came out tomorrow you're not purchasing one for under 100K

a 50K+ cab needs to charge about $5 a mile to be profitable good luck getting the 40% of the population that dont have $400 to their name to use them

4th
so people will be lining up in droves to rent out their 50K+ car for half of .60 a mile a 1971 cab rate? .30 a mile for a 50+K robot hahahahahaha whats .30 a mile a 1920s cab rate in 2030s Im sure the profits will be HUGE

cat wait tll my 50K robot returns home with used condoms on the floor, boogers n hair grease on the windows and that lovely vomit smell

5ths
Teslas need "little maintenance"
enjoy paying 1000$ to replace the side view mirror camera
the 20,000$ battery pack
1 of the hundreds of cameras/sensors goes out doh im sure that .30 a mile my cars making while I sleep will cover a tire after a year
let me guess you use an iphone n subscribe to your porch?

not to mention half the population will never step foot in one of these death traps their smart enough not to be beta testers for parasitic corpoearions and would never trust their life to these things so youll have to wait till all those people die off to scale, im sure generation si ssy that cant even figure out what gender they are and pay 5 mcchickens to get 1 delivered cant wait to subscribe to driving robot survellence bots that will take them to starbucks during a blizzard but most humans know betta
Believe it or not I happen to agree with damn near everything you wrote above, but the fact is there will be self-driving car owners that will sign up and they will do it not thinking that they're not making very much profit to maintain their car and for the eventual cleanups are going to have to do, it's like there are drivers out here who take these calls 10 miles away for four or five bucks, or take these calls for a 50-mile trip for 30 bucks, I had one right now as I'm typing this come up for Fontana to Fullerton offering me $31 not happening, there's going to be some dumbass self-driving car owner that's going to say to themselves I'm sitting here on my couch and my car made me 25 or 30 bucks to drive to Fullerton and maybe back again for another 25 or 30 bucks oh my God my car is a money tree, until they realize as I said their tires are wearing out faster or God forbid they get a small fender bender or a door Dent that cost thousands of dollars to fix, will probably happen they'll start off paying them a decent rate for their cars for the first year or so and then after that the rates will go down just like it did for human drivers and dumbasses are still be leasing their cars out to Uber.

Answer: You tell the rider that you need a fifty cent PER MILE out of town fee, in cash, before you leave town. So, round it down to $15.

Would you do it for $53?

Yeah... 1 hr here.... 1 hr there boots.... $1.50 $2 extra a ride, only they are now offering less money for a ride when there is a boost offered.
Too lazy to look it up now, but I have ride offers that have a $6 boost that are at least $3 less than any other similar offer. So they are effectively taking the boost money.
Offers that would normally be $4 with a $3 boost that are offered for $5....

Is there even a minimum fare anymore?

I don't believe there is a minimum. Or it is only pennies. I remember a ride I did that had a $5 boost and a $7 Surge and it paid something like $12.13. Has anyone had a ride that paid literally nothing except for Surge and promo money? 13 cents is pretty close to nothing.

Free Enterprise.
  • Free enterprise refers to business activities that are not regulated by the government but are defined by a set of legal rules such as property rights, contracts, and competitive bidding.
  • The argument for free enterprise is based on the belief that government interference in business and the economy hampers growth.
  • A free enterprise legal system tends to result in capitalism.

Good strategy. Other ants gotta eat too, right?

So it is total B!tch to get a screenshot when the ride offer comes in. Anyone have any neat tricks. I used to use an app that puts a button on top of screen, but the uber popup goes on top of it and it is not accessable.
This thread makes me want to become a butter farmer.

Very difficult to continue driving for Lyft , just a month go these same rides would pay 60-80$ , this is slavery.
