On April 9, 2020, at the daily Gov. DeWine's press conference on COVID-19, a reporter finally asked about unemployment. Lt. Gov. Husted said that web page needed for 1099, self employed, and gig workers to file for unemployment is projected to be up by mid-May. Yes, you read that correctly: Mid-May. Apparently having safety nets in place BEFORE they crashed the economy wasn't part of the planning process.

None of those categories ever paid into unemployment so the computer systems are not set up to handle those payments. Somebody has to modify the programs to make that happen and it does not happen overnight. There are multiple states desperately trying to find programmers to make the changes for their states.

They can do a Go Daddy web page, use PayPal, and 1099 employment workers can upload photos of their 1099's verifying employment for 2019 and copies of their bank statements from January to March 31st to verify income. Mulitple states can't find "programmers?" How strange. Bet they have hundreds of state employees sitting at home collecting full paychecks.

There is another topic on the main board about how the states are trying to find COBOL programmers to do the changes. COBOL programmers are retiring left and right but US schools no longer teach the language.

I took a COBOL class as an elective after taking a PASCAL class that was required for my major and really liking it. But that was 25+ years ago. I don't remember any of it now. In fact, after liking PASCAL I was thinking of changing my major to CIS, but after taking the COBOL class I decided not to. The professor at the beginning of the COBOL class did say that this was a "weed out" class for CIS majors.

Read the state web site. If you are 1099 and not REQUIRED to quarantine you must be "advised by a health care provider to self quarantine" GOOD LUCK. My doc said NO!!!

BTW: Stay home order IS NOT quarantine

Hello friend
I have a question ..I filed a claim at EDD... it was start at last week of March ( I didn't go to work
coz my wife got sick that our doctor said maybe it is covid-19 and I have a 10 years old son all our family were in quarantine; in that time test also was not available and it took 4 weeks she got better and again I got sick and after that our son ,... ) .
I am full time Uber driver and I have been working for 5 years for Uber .
EDD didn't pay any penny . again at 15 may I filed claim coz all my friend in Uber received unemployment benefits.
again today morning I received message from EDD that there is no benefit about my claim......
During these 3 months and half i didn't received any thing due to this pandemic ..
my question is if any body has same experience ?!!!
I don't know maybe EDD cant access to my wages and my 1099K form related to my working ?!..
and if some body has any advice ?!!!
