This past week I was in Salt Lake City and used Uber to/from the airport. Got into a discussion with one driver about the protests and pay. She tells me she made $35 in four hours the day before. She was ok with that but would like to make more. I asked if that was gross or net, then I had to explain the difference. She said that if she had to subtract the cost of gas she wouldn't have made anything. Oh boy, this is not good. She also tells me the Uber rate there is $.34/mile. It's not, but she insisted it was .34. This opened my eyes that this is exactly (one of) the kind of clueless driver Uber is shamelessly exploiting.
