I live in North Jersey and am currently driving a sedan for Uber. I want to take advantage of UberSUV for the additional income and had a number of questions. I was wondering if someone could help me? I will share my gameplan and if someone would be willing to help that would be great. I can also speak by phone if that works better. I am looking to buy(probably finance) a brand new 2018/19 Infiniti QX60 because I believe this is the best vehicle for the job. I know that I need commercial reg and insurance for UberSUV. I may be looking to get a TLC license to work in New York City if that makes the most sense. Should I register in a company name or personal? If anyone has experience with this and could walk me through, just so I know I'm doing the right thing, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Hey bud, very friendly advice keep your sedan and use it for work. DO NOT UPGRADE, the rates aren’t what they used to be, you will have a much much harder time covering your expenses let alone bringing a good % of profit home. I have my tlc not a bad idea to get yours as well. However, if you want to give the NYC Uber market a world than rent a car for about a month, you will get a decent understanding of where your profit stands between NY & NJ

Dude ,are you ok ?????
There is no work in NYC for black /suv. Im happy if i got 3 jobs a week for suv ,none of them more than $50.00. I can not even remember when was my last job over $ 100.00 Everyone orders XL for half price.
QX 60 is not an suv. I do not know why Uber keep this crap on SUV list. How gou going to handle 6 adults and luggage ? Or even 6 adults and no luggage ?? Those remaining few ,who order SUV will cancel on you most of the time. Black car ,you can do 5-6 jobs a day max. Average job will be $ 20.00 .
Go to facebook page and look for Ubermike. This guy is a veteran in this business. After 2 months of getting his brand new $80K navigator ,he took off his TLC plates and now work in NJ uber X and XL. Think a little .He could not make it and you going to make it ? LOL just WOW how naive some people are .

My advise aould be to get rid of what you have an buy a 2008 to 2010 prius. This gig is not worth it. Pax pays cheap rates you have to lower your expense. Not increase it. Only way to make money is with a beatup car and keep ur cost down.
Agreed. Gas isn't getting any cheaper, drive the most fuel efficient, cheapest, reliable car possible.[/QUOTE]

1) you are not going to get commercial insurance in NJ.

2) listen to everyone else and stick with UberXL, not SUV.

3) If you're going to upgrade your vehicle, get a used Ford Flex or a Minivan. It qualifies for XL but it isn't gigantic, ingress and egress for third row is easy, and it gets decent mileage.

Don't get TLC. Don't do black. The business is not there if you're Jersey based.

Ok, so let me start by saying that none of the comments above are correct, some are misinformation and some trying to discourage you.
Getting the Infiniti QX60 is a great choice BUT I will say this....
1- Dont get a brand new 2018, that's insane... get a 2016, it will qualify just as well as the 2018 but is cheaper to buy, just because you get a 2018 that won't make you more money..... 2016 is you ideal Model.... one, because depreciation already took place and two because now Infiniti is offering on all their CPO vehicles a warranty with unlimited miles and doing Uber you will get high up on miles.

2- Try to get the hybrid version which will help a bit with gas usage.... 2016 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid is hard to find but still possible, they didn't make many. If you can't find hybrid no problem, the regular still has good MPG, around 23 for a 3 row seat is great.

3- Stay AWAY from any Infiniti QX60 prior to 2016, the 2014 and 2015 have horrible transmission problems.

Good luck.

Due to changes in TLC pick-up in jersey. I say no to TLC.

You are not getting OL plates in jersey. You can forget about it. Ask Mr. UberMike.

If I was you, I would get a well used Sienna. Do X and XL in jersey. But honestly. Stick with what you have. If it's all paid for. That would be my gameplan.

This is what you will be doing A LOT if you get the QX60. hahaha

Thanks for responding Adam, I really appreciate it! I was just thinking that would enable me to do SUV, Black or XL whatever was available. You don't happen to know where I can get the exact pay structure for the rides do you? For UberSUV and Black etc...Or should I just look at the prices in the rider app and assume I'll get 75% of those fares?

Thanks for the encouragement Fernando! I believe you have to have commercial reg and insurance with Uber Black or SUV, and that might negate the warranty that Infiniti has on their CPO's. I did speak with a dealer and they indicated that they would be aware and then it wouldn't qualify.

Oh good, it's episode #463637 of "Newbie Know It All Tries to Get OL Plates". It's my favorite.

Robert, if you do get OL plates, I will commend you, but I also want to tell you, you better be prepared to hustle and build a big book of business for private rides. Otherwise you're going to put yourself into a 5-figure debt hole and you'll be the second coming of Kevin.
