Is there good demand on Long Island right now? Thinking about doing this after work and on the weekends is it worth it?
Long Island is already flooded with hundreds of homeless Uber drivers from the city who are literally living in their vehicles 24/7 while picking up $10 UberX rides with brand new Escalades and Mercedes SUVs.

Poor people, buried in debt...

No!...If you have any LEGAL questions ask the Nassau County TLC office And the Suffolk County TLC offices!!...Uber still sends us pick up calls on Long Island but you WILL get heavily ticketed if you are caught. It is YOUR driving record that is at stake here....Not Uber!!... (This is what I was told at the Nassau County TLC)
Hi uberrose , I'm thinking to start ubering here in long Island Nassau. are you still ubering in Nassau ? How was your experience ? Do you recommend it?

There are alot of fictitious characters here that want you to believe you'll be making $$$$. The truth is you'll be making around $12 hr and destroying your car at the same time. Uber prays on people that are desperate or just nuts. If you fit into these categorieswell, good luck I guess

Don't DO IT. There is a lot of enforcement lately.
T-C plated vehicles are allowed to do single-point trips outside of the 5 boroughs. That means a pickup in Nassau and drop in Suffolk is fine but a pick-up in Nassau and drop in Nassau is fined. UBER ought to be able to give you single-point pings so they are culpable for giving you work you are not properly licensed for (how are we supposed to know where these freakin county borders are!?). Be careful when dropping at train stations, these are common destinations that TLC enforcement use to snare NYC drivers. So suggest to your pax, a drop-off across the street from the train station. Use your destination filters to lower the risk of getting fine-able pings. When I am in Westchester or LI, I set the filter for JFK, these are the best paying trips anyway cuz they get you on the highway for 20-30 miles. Keep in mind that, 60mph highway trips bill-out for $120/hour while 10mph, around-town trips bill-out for like $40/hour, do the math.

so we are allowed to pick up in Westchester if the destination is outside of Westchester?

A lot of drivers have the same idea about coming to the island, the problem is it's already flooded. Here in Suffolk there isn't that kind of high demand and I find myself at home waiting 15 min for a ping and when I get one lots of times it's like 10 miles away because of all the new drivers in the area. If you live in the area and are looking for some side income then give it a shot on Friday and Saturday nights. If not just stay in the outer boros if you don't want to drive in the city. I've resorted to going back to the boros by setting the destination filter to JFK and when I get there, I go Juno and lyft exclusively. That's the honest truth about Long Island now. Nassau has 22 different municipalities and even with a Nassau Tlc license it doesn't guarantee you won't get ticketed. Uber will pay for the first but after that your on your own my dude. Second fine comes in at $3000. And that's basically the jist of the island in case anyone else has an epiphany about coming here.

Can't agree more.

There are Uber drivers driving from the City, sleeping in their cars literally 24/7 during the summer and 24/4 (Fri-Mon) during winter months here in East End.

I personally drive back to the City for Juno/Lyft work only (no, I am not homeless, I have a place in Manhattan too) and never turn the Uber app on in the city) from Tue-Fri on most weeks in the winter since it is totally dead here during weekdays of long winter months.

Desperation due to over-saturation (thanks to Uber and NYC TLC) created hundreds of homeless drivers especially over the past couple of years.

Eventually, there will be a breaking point in this industry, like 2007 real estate/mortgage crash. Biggest indication is, auto loan lenders do not even talk to potential buyers when they hear the keyword "Uber".

Those exotic(!) auto loans with "no down/no credit" and "lease-to-own" bubble will burst eventually. Wait and see...

I've talked to the kid in charge of Suffolk county for lyft in the Lic office and offered to promote them here but he told me they've got their marketing team on it. They have nothing, it seems all the kids they hire straight out of college want to act like they know how it's done in the driving industry. They act like 5 star generals when they haven't even been to boot camp. That's one of the reasons why lyft is doing so bad here in Suffolk. 3 out of 5 rides are always over 20 min away. I don't even turn my app on for them anymore.

Maybe Talmon Marco will be more open minded about the idea. They are getting ready to expand to Boston and maybe they might consider bringing Juno to Suffolk as long as the drivers are licensed in Suffolk. I've been backhandly promoting uber here by just showing up with a nice clean vehicle and wish we had another app option to promote. Hopefully someone on the Juno team is reading this. Btw, your absolutely correct about that, first they had those predatory loans from Santander and now I believe uber is working with someone else. Those poor guys are basically working just to pay the car and insurance for the week. It's a tough lesson to learn when dealing with that ponzi scheme of a company. Those lenders know how little the drivers make and how easily they can be deactivated so it's good business to stay from newbie drivers trying to get a loan

I have already spoken directly to both Talmon (Juno) and Leon (Lyft) multiple times since last year about opening the market (Juno) and promoting the product (Lyft) here in East End.

Talmon has no interest whatsoever to open Juno in East End anytime near future. Because, he thinks the market here is too small(!) for him and not worth the extra work. So, that case is closed.

On the other hand, Lyft don't care about marketing and promoting the Lyft here in East End. All Lyft riders over the summer was "coincidentally" and "accidentally" discovered that Lyft is operating here. You can go online 24/7 with Lyft and get only couple of pings "only" Saturdays here. Because, people just don't know Lyft is operating here. This case also been discussed multiple times with Leon from Lyft and no result. So, this case is closed too.

Golden times was before the 2nd quarter of 2014. Last train left the station since then.

I'll give it a shot anyway, like they say, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If I can get a meeting with him I may be able make him rethink it. Suffolk county is a 1.6 million car reliant person demographic with atrocious local cab companies. I'll let you know if anything comes of it.

How bout doing a story on how uber is ripping off drivers and passengers. Do a story about the already expensive startup costs to start driving and making peanuts for rides that should be a livable wage....I'm sure you'll get drivers on camera then
