So i went to a private dealership today (essential trip as i was looking to buy a car!) and they valued my 2015 Corolla sedan at $11k, and asked for a changeover of $4k to go for a 2016 Camry with 110,000 kms valued at $15k. My Corolla has 114,000 kms.

Is it a good deal? When it was busy did you comfort ants actually get comfort trips? If so what was the ratio of comfort trips ? 10X to 1 Comfort?

(Yes yes i am aware there's no money to be made now. I think we are a few months away still from the lockdowns being over. There will come a day when life is back to normal and I want to know if its worth upgrading to Comfort/XL)

I wouldn't pay 11k for a 114k corolla... 2016 camry if it hybrid yes but 15k for a normal one that over a hundred thousand? Is it leather and premium? You can get a comfort/xl class vehicle full leather under 180k for under 15k right now and it only going to get better. Sell the corolla to the dealer if they are going to pay you 11k for it :roflmao:

If ur into "projects" you can pick up high mileage comfort/xl vehicle for 10-13k with all the bells & whistles but you will be spending 3-5k on parts and labor in the 1st year "If ur lucky...". That the trade off. No way around it. Higher the mileage the more you are gambling with. ✔ If you are unlucky... can be ten thousand dollars in parts and repairs within the first 12 months :p the 2nd year can be worst.

Cheap for a reason... Because you got to replace all the rubber & hoses in them "preventative" as soon as you can afford to. "I learned this the hard way" 185k in had this SUV with a leaking turbo hose that has cracked with age & miles. Didn't catch it until the next service but damage was already done cost me $2300 as it fried the EGR "Cost $900", blocked exhaust systems and filled the engine up with deposit. All of which had to be stripped and cleaned.

I know I'm biased AF when it comes to cars but please consider a 2013 Subaru Liberty premium sedan or wagon. You can get a premium 2.5i for around $11k usually with intermediate miles. They are super comfortable both for driver and rider.

Comfort is definitely worth it especially if you do the morning AP trips.

Nah was just normal interior, base model.

Only XL ones I can think of under $15K are Holden CRAPtivas. One of my mates had to go through 2 gearboxes that failed on it. Heard nothing but bad about that model

I only (used to) do Friday night, Saturday eves and Sunday eves

Mon-Fri FT job 9-5 so morning AP trips were a no for me

Lower ur expectation a bit and look at maybe 2013 >200k project cars as I would call it from a dealer. Since ur somewhat protected by law from selling you an unsafe broken car like you got zero protection from private sellers... Expand that search Oz wide. It'll be that perfect little "Or rather big" car for you in this country. Sure you got to pay for transport if it is interstate because you can't even drive it out since the lockdown.

I would advise against getting a camry base model for "comfort".... Ur rating going to tank and funny enough rating does matter if you want to do comfort trips it has to be 4.85 and you got to be providing "extra service" like that blokes on here to keep it at that because who expecting comfort class vehicle and a base model camry rocking up? You are going to get abused, harassed and cancelled on. It not in any way luxury.

I don't understand why Uber will put a base model camry as a "comfort car" maybe in India it a luxury car when they got all those indian made cars on the road that are 50 years old hold together by duck tape and superglue. In that sense it makes sense.

Subaru is well known for its engine gasket leak usually before 200,000km. $4k/1wk repair at the dealership.
Craptiva is real crap. Diesel 14l/100km. 😂
Comfort paxholes on the base (1.15x surge for UberX) have more expectations than 2x surge paxes. Most of them have 4.6*- ratings.
4.6*- paxholes for XL trips usually go less than 2km. Putting up the backseats is good for your exercise but it is pain in the arse on the busy streets. When there are more than 4 people, they order XL because it is cheaper than 2 UberXs. It is like a POOL in a single trip.

90% of the trips are just X even if you drive Comfort/XL car.

There is one more thing to consider. If you are open to many options, Uber reserves you for the better (for them) deal. Say, if you are XL and there are not many XLs in that area, your priority to get X is lowered (reserved for XL).

Go just to a vehicle eligible only for X (cheaper).

I wouldn't spend 4k just so I could get comfort rides, but with a rental I traded up at a cost of $15 a week and Comfort more than pays for itself, even in these times.

If you are planning on upgrading to a Camry anyway then that's not a terrible deal but with coronavirus I'm certain you could hammer them down a couple thousand if you are patient.

Thanks, I'll try and look for a decent deal with leather seats, there seems to be a price difference of $2k ish between the base model and the SX. Might be cheaper to get base model and put leather seat covers, everything else about the car is the same so.

I'm considering selling the rolla and getting a Mirage. srs

That's what I am thinking, I recovered the cost of my Corolla in appx 8 months of casual driving, once this virus lockdowns are over I should be able to recover that $4k in couple of months me thinks.

XL/Comfort class open doors for you especially at the airport and you fill like camping not driving FT. Watch a TV show etc have Uberx turn off and wait for a XL ride. "After lockdown of course" In just the first day it'll cover the difference between Uberx to XL/Comfort cost. Since ur getting 50% more. Sometimes you'll just get 1 person in the XL because they are sick of riding around in tiny cars and prefer something bigger then a shoe box.

Anyone that is a comfort/xl driver that saying it not worth it for a FT ant or even a part time ant they are saying that because they don't want you operating in their market place. Because they wouldn't be doing it themselves if it was not worth it  If you already covered ur cost difference in the 1st day then you got the rest of the week to make "extra" on top of that.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of comfort request I was actually getting because you think about it... Ur in a vehicle most likely better then ur standard taxi but still cheaper then a taxi so most rider do not mind forking out that extra $$$ to not ride in a base model vehicle with a clown that got no idea. You get to buy ur rated driver.
