I believe to be able to pick up these types of passengers, uber is requesting a 2 hour "training session". **** that.
2 hours of my time for uber and not get paid? Really?! If you've taken the training, special Olympics, etc., just to get the same $1 a mile and $0.18 per minute, you really need to take some simple business classes.

That is another thing. Uber always wants me to drive 30 minutes to Westwood, and then sit for a 2 hour class so I can make less money?

I would have never done that because it is a huge liability issue.

Uber is very fond of volunteering your time and effort for free. As long as it does not cost Uber anything they are all for it.
The elderly or most of them have personal aids to assist them to get in the car. What are they going to train you guys how to fold up a walker. Touching anyone opens yourself up to liabilities
Yes but I have a Nursing Assistant license so I was able to help him. Anyway it is not worth it.

Driving for Uber is like a charity/volunteer type of thing :D

I can't see many drivers doing this training knowing they won't be making more on each trip. Uber can't charge any more than a regular trip to avoid backlash, but they should give drivers and incentive to do them by waving commissions. It's going to take extra time and fuel to do these pickups, and drivers are on thin margins as it is.
Why in the world would anyone pay for training to help Uber provide a service? Free training is not a plus for doing this. Wow these people are delusional to think that's a selling point....

Personally, if Uber isn't paying more for UberAssist rides, I think it's a bad idea. If you want to "help" go help feed the homeless... We drive to make money (and at the current rates and the number of drivers online that is getting harder and harder). I totally agree w/ the above comment, it will take more of your time to pick up and drop off helping get people in your car, which drivers will likely be doing for free.

I would also add that the liability associated with assisting handicap people is also higher. It's better to let the government subsidized/sponsored programs that are available to handle this....

If Uber Doesn't Want to Accommodate Blind Riders, Gett Will
http://www.wired.com/2015/07/uber-d...e-blind-riders-gett-will/?mbid=social_twitter

...Uber has seemingly sought to rehabilitate its reputation by launching several programs and features of its own to make rides more accessible to more people. Yesterday, it announced it was launching a new program for senior citizens and disabled riders in Los Angeles called UberAssist that offers specially trained drivers and vehicles that can accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters. And in May, the company unveiled app updates to help its deaf drivers.

I have picked up a few blind people, no training required.

A few with walkers they could not do without... no training required.

It did take more time to deal with the pax's special needs and packing up the walkers in the trunk... but it does not require training.
