Looks like surge will be a thing of the past with fixed pricing. Will be rolled out globally within the next few months. My guess is pricing will be in favour of the riders. Got caught in a heavy jam this morning on ECP due to heavy rain from Tampines to Shenton Way at 1.7X. Ride took more than an hour and the fare is $41.60 excluding tolls. Doubt will get that with fixed price, riders will not accept such fares.

It's full transparency of pricing upfront. Surge pricing will remain a fixture on Uber.

For example, when there's a surge say x2 and you request for a ride from Woodlands to Raffles Place the app will calculate the actual fares you'd pay at the end of the trip. This trip would cost roughly about $40 on 2-times surge during AM peak.

It's called "fixed fares" because if the driver for some incredulous reason decides to take you to Raffles Place from Woodlands via Changi you are still to pay $40. Much like how Grab approached its fixed fares structures, except on Uber the fares are fixed only during surge.

But how would Uber be able to 'calculate' the time for unexpected incidents like accidents or unusual heavy traffic during heavy rain? For example, a usual 30 mins drive become more than an hour? With the transparent pricing, the final fares are displayed before booking... like Grab.

Wow. $41.60. Taxi also not so expensive..

Might as well see doctor and take MC.
heard many case ppl pay surge charge dont even know how much they need to pay. hence they now prefer grab. but grab fares also keep changing each time. it is not really cheap compare to taxi non-peak n their surge is definitely higher than normal taxi peak hour fare .

A good affordable cheap ride need to be maintained by a group of drivers in regardless and having a family to support means there are some who needs to earn enough to bring home too .If you think you cannot afford extra to cater for a private transportation , go public .... Simple as that . Quit whinning
