Cherry picking is completely out of hand at lax. Yesterday I accepted a 1.9x around 6pm. I am heading over to terminals and I call the guy. Man was confused as to why I was calling since his driver, Constantine, had already called and was heading over. Right away I knew exactly what happened, and I told the pax, Constantine is not coming over because he cancelled on you, and your request got passed to me. I told him, you must have a short ride out of lax, and no one wants to do those. I asked him if Constantine had asked him where he was going, and the pax said, yes he did, and pax told him Manhattan Beach. I told pax that no one wants to go to Manhattan Beach because drivers just don't make any money doing that drive. I told Pax I would come over and take him home. Got to pax, and explained the whole game a lot of drivers were doing. This pax had been cancelled on twice, and spent 35 minutes trying to get a ride home before I "saved" him. The pax was a super nice guy. When I dropped him off and took his suitcase out of the car he gave me $20. I told him that wasn't why I came and got him.
Uber, this is happening constantly. Pax don't mind paying a surge out of lax, because they get it, its chaos over there and they know they will have to pay for that chaos, what they do care about is spending a half hour trying to get someone to pick them up. Your app is becoming UNRELIABLE at lax. THAT IS THE WORST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN TO UBER. ABSOLUTE WORSE.
This is how you fix it.
Any driver cancels on a TERMINAL PING, gets sent to the back of the queue. If Driver cancels more than 2 terminal pings in a day, gets suspended for 72 hours of pickups at lax. Any driver that has more than two passangers cancels (because what drivers are doing is talking pax into cancelling rather than doing it themselves) in a day at lax gets put on a 72 hour suspensions of being able to receive lax terminal requests.
I am talking about terminal pings only. As the lax mafia is constantly using their rider app to plant false pings at the hotels and on 96th street and 98th street. These fake "rider" ride request people need to have their accounts suspended as they are committing fraud. Not only are they trying to climb the queue, they are also increasing a false demand which pushes the surge.
Driver who have more than 5 cancels at lax in a month or have 5 riders cancel in a month face a 6 month ban from receiving lax terminal requests. In a year, I have had less than 5 passengers cancel on me.
You also need to have a minimum ride fare out of lax just as taxis do. Driver needs to get at least $15, Period! Drivers wait for 10-30 minutes for a ping, and then during Lax rush hour 8pm-11pm spend 20 minutes getting over to pax only to get a short ride to El Segundo and pax $5 is beyond ridiculous. This is exactly why drivers are cherry picking. I wish I could do it, but it just doesn't seem right. But the drivers who are cherry picking are sticking the drivers who don't with an uneven share of short rides.
Pax who complain the drivers asked for their destination are banned for 6 months from lax.
Oh and it wouldn't hurt if you gave incentives for lax pickups. For example, every 25 completed lax pickups gets drivers a $25 bonus.
Uber is becoming unreliable at lax because of cherry picking, this is the worse thing possible for the uber platform.
