Hi all. I drive late nights Uber x and Uber select. The last couple of days when i get a uber x job some Pax have been saying they are lucky and got upgraded to a Uber select for the same price as a Uber x. I didn’t think anything of it but when 3 different pax said the same thing I thought it was weird. I asked the 3rd guy. He showed me his rider app and it said YOU HAVE BEEN UPGRADED TO UBER SELECT AT NO EXTRA COST. I checked my app and it’s paying me as Uber x rates... it doesn’t really bother me because I accept Uber x jobs but I felt used as I was providing the service but Uber is taking the credit for it. Yes Uber are upgrading the Pax to a Uber select but it’s not costing them anything. Let me know your thoughts...

This is normal... anytime a person books an uberx ride with you it will say this message. Uber says its "to market uberselect to them" so they might try it next time etc... but yes they are taking credit for your service. The message should be worded to give full credit to the driver

Uber hasn’t upgraded them to Select, you as the driver have done it by accepting the X request.

I'd be telling the "upgraded" customers that you prefer select because those customers actually appreciate the higher class of vehicle and you usually get much more tips from select customers. Could be a nice way of getting some tax free tips. They might feel cheap if they do not tip. lol

Yes I agree.. it should say Congratulations you have been upgraded to uber select because your driver needs money to feed his family and to pay the repayments on his car. Uber is still paying him uber x rates so maybe give the poor guy a tip.. hahaha

It effectively might mean you get select rates (depending on the size of the tip) and FUber get $0 in extra commission. Win win!!!

Surely, you're not suggesting Über is being underhanded or dishonest are you?

The selfish and self-obsessed attitudes of some drivers never ceases to amaze me. Theoretically, you may be financially subsidising both Über and your riders, but Lordy, surely the badges are more than adequate compensation!

Also imagine all the X drivers that wait in the queue at the AP etc who get put back in line so that the select drivers can get an X trip and make riders feel super cool.

We believe that select cars at the airport get priority over X drivers for X trips. It is great for Uber and the rider but sucks azzz for drivers. The select driver has a select car but gets only X rates. The X driver gets pushed to back of the queue.

Select drivers have no wait at the AP etc because they are being bumped to the front of the Uber X queue

Sounds like you want it both ways but as a driver unfortunately it doesn't work that way when yo are dealing with Uber.

Let me put it to you this way, would you rather be driving around waiting for a ping whilst earning zip or do a uberx trip and make a few dollars? If you want to get paid select rates then change your app to receive only select trips.

It's highly unlikely but you never know maybe one of those pax that got upgraded will be impressed by the better ride that next time they decide to pay for a select ride, in which case it will be good for you.

During surge periods of over 1.3X on Select, if there is no select cars close, a Select request will be sent to a Black car paying the Select SURGE rate with a similar message.

After accepting s Black request, I've gotten very surprised Select riders and tell them they've got a double upgrade into a UBERLux Tesla, for what the Select surge rate would've been.

Yes they do get pushed to the front of the queue and Uber says to the rider you got a free upgrade to select happy customer happy Uber,

X drivers unhappy at back of queue and select drivers giving select rides for the price of an X ride.

Makes sense doesn't it? At least from Ubers point of view (and the cheapskate pax)

So the lesson here is that if you just bought a new Camry to do Uber, you need to upgrade and buy a better car so you qualify for Uber Select and still earn Uber X rates.
Looking forward to seeing more Luxury cars with Uber Sticker on the roads.

Of course all the fake surge non believers that think FUber is out to maximise revenue with genuine surges, will be having a heart attack that FUber is giving away select rides with no extra coin in it for them.
