I've been driving Lyft for a couple weeks and learned that if I drive a nicer vehicle I can get a rate increase.

As of right now I get a bit as soon as I turn the app on but I keep getting rocked with small fare rides.

Anyone using Select in metro detroit? How long in between fares? Is it consistent?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The trips are extremely rare now. BUT you do get them occasionally. You must also then keep your car immaculate in case you get the request while doing uberx and lyft. I do recommend if you are able; the money will not be any different. 1 to 2 short rides a day most days. Some days no requests for select...

I will say last year at this time... it was a lot mixer for select. And I think the rates were the exact same.

The up front fares have hurt Select.
Most are not going to pay 3 times the Uber X rate.
Most of the Select requests now are short trips where the difference is only a couple of dollars more.
I still have regular business clients that don't mind paying more because they expense the cost.

I just noticed I “qualify” for select rides and Uber Eats. I have a fusion - it is new and pretty and I did get the titanium hybrid, but still, a Fusion vs a Lexus or BMW? I’m going to try when I start delivering McDonalds in Bloomfield Hills!!!! OMG I’m doing it tomorrow, dressed up like a MetroCar driver in the black/white outfit!!! LOL!!

You will be lucky to get 3 select requests a week. Don' dress up. That is uber black.

In October 2016 Uber introduced upfront pricing. That basically sealed the death of everything other than Uber X for the most part. Back then I was doing 25+ select rides a week as well as xl rides on top of that.
Now you will be lucky to get 4 or 5 select rides a week .

Uber truly destroyed select when they opened up the eligible vehicle list to include basic vehicles like a camry or a fusion etc.

Thankfully I had a truck back then that was eligible for select but there is no way in hell I'd buy one again or upgrade Just to do select.

With all the continuous bad publicity Uber brings, the flooding of the market with vehicles and idiot drivers who have absolutely no idea what they are doing this gig now is no where near what it used to be.

As mitten said thankfully I have a few business travelers who pay extra since they expense it as my own customers.

Uber is a disgrace in all fairness and I only wish they would fall on their face completely. Lyft isn't much better but at least they aren't always in the news with something negative. Just wish we could Sue Uber for all the controversy they have since it does affect our earnings in a negative way

Rather than start a new thread, can anybody provide an update on Uber Select? I have a 2017 which does not qualify for Select, and a 2019 which does. Both are lease vehicles with a finite number of miles I can use for Uber, but the 2017 non-Select vehicle has quite a bit more miles available for my use. Are there certain times and places in Detroit where I would be better off using the Select vehicle? I've had 35 rides since starting back up this past Thursday. 20 of these were using my Select vehicle without a single Select fare. In the 14 hours of driving I haven't sat idle for more than 2 minutes at a time. Is Select something to factor into my vehicle selection? Or just grab the more convenient vehicle and go?

Then why are you still posting here? My first 4 days back since I quit in 2015 have been great. Non-stop rides every time I go out. I'm making around $20/hour after paying for gas.

Still looking for an answer about Select.
Because I can post here if I want to.

And those non stop rides are a honeymoon phase. They are just trying to get you hooked. Lol
