i just had trip from Fenway area to airport with 2.4 surge. She gets in and she has kind of angry attitude. She was like you guys make good money. I said not really why? And I asked her how much she is paying for this trip and she said $54. I thought that was too much as traffic wasn't that bad. And I explained her that prepaid fare are bad for rider as we get paid of miles and times. The trip was $31 but pax paid $54. That is $23 more from single trip. Somebody need to do something about this scam uber is running. I hate angry attitude of pax every time they pay more.

Woow ! Uber commission is more than %30.

Rider is right, surge is not fair, but standart rate is completely unfair. Surge here works as an instrument for equality.

Today actually but I don't want to go into details since I could get banned. She (the pax) instigated it and I was offline so...
You can give details on zello.

Give an example!
Here is an example. It is towards the end of the article.

This is the first article I have seen detailing how Uber is using upfront pricing to take a larger % of the overall fare.

http://www.businessinsider.com/uber-travis-kalanick-drivers-paid-less-2017-3

If you don't want to read the whole thing below is the most relevant part of the story in my opinion.

"To break even across the U.S., excluding fixed costs, company staffers have calculated that Uber needs to keep an average of 23% of the price of a ride, including the booking fee. Right now, Uber's overall 'take rate' is above 20% but below 23%. That's because many drivers enjoy 'grandfathered' rates where Uber takes as little as 15% of the fare. Nowadays Uber typically takes 25% from new drivers on UberX trips."

For most rides the booking fee will push Uber cut over 23% for drivers on 20% commission. At $1.35 the booking fee is 10% of a $13.5 ride, which i think is a little higher than the average rider payment for ride in Boston.

In other cities nationwide the booking fee is much higher.

Uber is trying to make much more than 23% by keeping on average $1-3 extra plus the booking fee via the upfront price vs the mile/min price. And even more for airport and long out of city trips.

Even if this gets into the news, does it really go anywhere? Will Uber be forced to change anything? I've said it before - pax agrees to the price in the rider app. Driver agreed to the rates in the partner agreement.

Tell me, how are airline tickets priced? You go to Travelocity or Orbitz and put in your round trip flight details, and you get a price. Do it again in two days it could be changed by +/- $100-200. What changed? How do the airlines get away with that? Or hospitals - see your itemized bill for an overnight stay. $60 for an aspirin, $200 for a bag of saline (simply salt water). It's ridiculous. Try finding an honest car repair place, or an honest car salesman.

We've all been punked in many sectors of the economy. Uber is just another player.
