Looks like Uber saw how much money they were losing as well on these short trips on the strip. Having to discount their booking fees all the way down to $0.62 (the lowest I've seen). What better way to give yourself a 150-300% raise across the board, while kicking pocket change back to the drivers.

Smooth move.

This morning was my first foray into the exciting world of UBER. Yeah! My very first trip netted me $2.47, woo hoo! What am I missing in regards to this minimum fare email that I also got today? Does today not mean today -- is it as of the email time?

To maximise profits, Uber will drop rates rapidly and advertise that fact to everyone, multiple times. One they have increased ridership to their target number they will then slowly and quietly raise rates. It is the same pattern they have used in every city they have initiated service in. By the end of December we should be back to the rates we were at last winter with at least twice as many rides.

I wonder, do taxi's pick up short trips like this? I can't see that they would for so little money. So, they must have a minimum to keep cheap payoffs, abuse, like this from happening. This kind of thing seems somewhat abusive of riders if they're just take hops from casino to casino. There needs to be a minimum of $5 to the driver alone. I mean it takes just as much time to load a rider to go a 1/2 mile than it does to go 2 miles.

The worst is little kids call on mom's phone from gated community to go to brat #2 house down the street.... could walk and catch more Pokemons!!! Some on the system have no biz ordering a private vehicle of any type...man when I was young I rode a ****ing bicycle 50 miles a day all over everything!! Pax app says nothing about a rate increases so don't go blabbering about it

I use to get short rides like that all the time when I was driving cab. It is just the cost of doing business. Can't refuse a ride in a taxi unless you want to go to the back of the line. With nearly all taxi lines maxed out, that is a losing proposition.
If you look at the pattern that has emerged in cities where Uber has recently initiated services, they drop the rates shortly after starting service to drive up ridership then slowly increase rates to maximize profits for themselves and their drivers. By this winter we should be back to where we were last winter with a marked increase in the number of rides. Would be nice to make some money off the App again...

Some helpful info there. Thax. I thought Ub might be the only ones getting those rides.

You guys keep all these cheapskates, the moment I stop getting these trips, the moment I quit, I rather have one trip that tips me and is worth my time than 5 that are worthless. In the last four days, Tuesday was 390, Wed 387, Thu 392 and today only 279. Minus city taxes, trip sheet, and airport fee all these together was 1284$ dollars for my book, I get 41.5 that equals a miserable 533 dollars for my check, for 4 full days. Tuesday I made 94 tips, Wed 97 , Thu 104 and today 78. A total of 373 in tips for 4 days, a total of 906$ in four days, I am not using my car or giving out water, mint , or begging for a five star rating, you guys are very close to a joke, sorry, but that is the truth. You guys need to understand that people like to tip in Las Vegas. And understand this, I am not lying.
