Based on driver feedback.... what kind of crack are they smoking at Uber HQ?

Subject is: a new reward. Ummmm we already get quest. It sucks even worse than flat surge.
Oh yeah, they use that language which makes your blood boil. "Based on feedback from drivers like you", " This feature has been developed for you and with you", "You told us that surge was unpredictable and inconsistent, so with this new surge your earnings will be more consistent". Blah blah blah!!!!
There's only one solution for all this, taxi and limousine commission of New York City, where they put all the guidelines in front of these crooks and asked them to hurry up and turn them into code on the app.

OK. Who's the ant who wrote this letter and got it stopped?

"Dear Uber Sirs -

I am a driver and after year of rate cuts I was so very very thrilled to be offered a few pennies more for every ride for three months. Three pennies or six pennies! It did not matter which. I was touched either way. But after all I have read in about Uber's finances I am very very concerned about its future profitability. Indeed, I am even concerned about poor Dara. I understand the area he lives in is very very expensive. If he gives away all these pennies to us poor drivers will he be able to afford a second or third house? Or a yacht to decorate his dock? The possibility that he might be somehow deprived of these things brings a tear to my eye. And what of the tech workers? Will they have to give up a Starbucks? Or a $15 drink at one of the posh establishments that exist solely to serve them? I would feel most terrible if such a fate were to befall them. While these tech workers are reputed to be poor tippers, even with the free rides provided, some do tip, and these extra pennies might cause them to stop even this acknowledgement of my existence and service. I cannot let this be. Therefore, may I kindly suggest you take away these few pennies? It would make me feel so very much better to know that my suffering is not in vain."

Said no ant, ever.

Damn! I was soooo getting ready to raise my acceptance rate 20%, drop my cancel rate 6%, and complete another 475 runs before the end of the month to qualify for platinum.

This is a deal breaker for sure.

Isn’t this the definition of the “bait and switch” technique?

By the way, no need to worry. I talked to Uber support and they said there has been no change. How the **** do they not even know the program has been changed?

I think it's safe to say that the cowboy days of rideshare are over.

The disruption hasn't happened and it never really will. Uber and Lyft will never realise their high fallutin ideas of dominating transport.

And so, with their IPOs, and the ensuing scrutiny, they must, as publicly traded companies, hasten their ways to a profit - at all costs.

There's only one route they can take - to raise rates and to cut costs, like all businesses since the dawn of time.

And there are no prizes for guessing where drivers fit into that equation.

$1.10/mile and $0.50/minute, that's all I want, NOTHING ELSE!!!!

If Uber sends me an agreement in which they say that they would charge the passenger however they want, they could charge the passenger 5 times more during events and I will have no share in that surge , and they will not give me any promotions, any quests, any bonuses whatsoever, but they will make sure that I will get paid $1.10/mile and $0.50/min and that I will have the same freedom and flexibility of a private contractor. My response would be, deal, let's do it. Pay me according to that rate, and go ahead and screw the passengers however you want, I will not have any problem.
Honestly, that would be my demand, I'm pretty sure many of you would not like me for that, but frankly that's how I feel, I could keep pounding my car day-and-night for them for that rate.

I still wouldn't work events. I foolishly tried working one Mariners game (first event I've tried in 6 months or more (even before the new flat surge). I opted to just drive emptyhanded out of there, rather than be totally neutered by the corporate villians at Uber and Lyft. Pax side surge was booming. Not a lot of cars were actually working the stadium. I re-learned my lesson and continued to avoid those money losing ventures.

Same here, I have never had any luck with events, I would take a busy evening rush hour over any freaking event anyday. Events attract too many clueless ants.

I.... used to have quite a bit of luck with events. I remember making $150 - $200 just working the end of an event. I used to make $75-$150 between 1:30-2:30 bar close rush. Sometimes you'd strike out and hardly make anything but the money was usually good.

Heading home from work today and traffic was at a dead stop. I looked over and saw a base fare Ant with 4 pax crammed in his Pruii, just sitting.....stuck in traffic. His pax were 4 restless Bros, all with the windows down and hanging their arms out of the vehicle. One started looking at other drivers, trying to make eye contact with them for some reason. Then as a Volvo in the next lane slowly cruised by he leaned out and swatted it on its trunk lid. Then grinning he slid back inside the car. I changed lanes and got off on the approaching exit. I left the base fare Ant sitting in that gridlock while I took some back roads home. I bet the Ant is still sitting there.

Stripping the incentive for drivers to reach these levels is either internal desperation or borne by external pressure.
It would make more sense now to eliminate the levels and re-even the playing field.
I am a stripper incentive level driver. Uber sent me my own Uber branded mankini to wear when doing ap runs. Business pax LOVE it. Esp when I flex my pecks to techno music while they're on a conference call. They delight that their co-workers don't know that they have Aurora's best right there, driving them to Seatac. They wouldn't dare tell em... their entire boardroom would be so jealous.

Aurora is mine. Stay off my corner.
