I have tried using the Uber maps program but find it confusing and not as accurate as Google Maps. So my question is - does the Point from the Pax on Uber translate directly to the Google Maps when you navigate with Google Maps? Does that make sense?
Both waze and google will get you to the pax and the to their destination and work with pools. I switch back to uber when I'm a minute away to get right to the pin; picking up and dropping off. I use waze; for me, it seems to play nicer with the Uber app on IOS. But definitely try both, just to see how the information translates on each. And search this forum; you will find tons of information on both.
This is mainly an issue for me in apartment complexes. I only saw Google as a nav option thru the Uber app. I guess I could use another like Waze but I like the simple symmetry between Uber and Google map apps.
on android. google map is better at tracking your position than uber map. hence, google will be better at leading you to the pax position.
i still oppose the latest change to the app, the one where they give you directions:
- It takes too long to load the PING! 5 seconds for the ping screen to even load. another 5 seconds for the address and map to load, so you can see how far away it is and plan a route. that leaves you 5 seconds to decide whether to accept it. Is that the way uber intends it to be???
- As mentioned, it's slow at updating your position! It used tp be that the uber map was reliable to know how close you are to the rider. when you were within 200 feet, google maps would switch to uber and you could maneuver to the exact right spot. that is no longer possible, since the new fancy schmancy in-app turn by turn navigation always shows where you were about 10 seconds ago instead of where you are now.
- THE ADDRESS still takes too long to load! It's pathetic that I've gotten used to this already! I'm literally used to waiting for about 5 seconds after the pax gets in the car so that his destination will load! Sometimes the address briefly flashes up at the top of the screen and then quickly disappears while the map loads... and loads... and loads. I need time to, you know, process the address... and I need to see it on a map so I can see the cross streets... it would be nice if Karen Stein actually drove sometimes (does he? does anyone know?) so he could see exactly what i mean when i say this new (already old) update is horrible! oh, and the map shouls default to "north up" at all times. Thank you.
