uber is $5 an hour job and should be governed by USA minimum wage!

if you think uber in march 2016 is better than a $5 an hour job, I challenge you to work any non surge area for 8 hours of any weekday. You will be lucky to clear $50 minus gas money. $35 for the day!

try it! see for your self.! slave wages at uber.

sure you can get surges at 12 am to 3 am on weekends.
or live in surge town like phoenix where it surges day and night because fare is 75cents a mile and drivers will not pickup unless there is a surge of 1.5 or higher.
anyway welcome to non regulated less than minimum wage job.

uber takes 25% of drivers fare, and $1.20 from every fare.
a $4.20 minimum fare PAYS driver $2.25! uber takes nearly 50% of fare in that case!
Uber changed rates to garbage rates in 2016 to make sure uber gains at drivers expense.
drivers need to wise up. either no drive, or drive lyft, or just go get minimum wage job! youll do better than destroying your car at 3000 miles a month to make $5 an hour!

costco is paying $13 an hour minimum wage all across usa. easily twice what you can earn driving for uber. Easy! same with walmart, pays double uber pay at end of week. you can take day off too at costco or walmart.

I don't have the exact number, but I'm still averaging over $15 an hour. I've only taken one trip the last month and it was almost twenty bucks 19.78. 16 miles round trip to the loop and back. Uber only takes 20% from some people

Pretty accurate except for:
"Uber changed rates to garbage rates in 2016..."
That actually happened by the end of 2014. What you considered to be good rates when you started was actually only the residual of REALLY good rates before you onboarded. You were late for that party.

Hourly take home depends on your market. I'm in Los Angeles. My numbers are $150 gross per day ($200 per day on surge weekends), usually within a 10 hour shift now that we have the big money dog LAX back in the mix. I take long breaks as I see fit. My gas in a Prius is usually about $15 per day (200 miles on 1/2 tank).

UBER takes their 20 percent/$30, which leaves me with $10.50/hour pre-tax. I call my own hours and days. Which allows me to drive my regular cash limo clients on a weekly basis ($250-$500/week). Remember, don't rely on just UBER alone. You have to have a side job/business/cash clients to make it work. I take Mondays off and can sleep late everyday. I don't have a physical boss to answer to, thank God. The last time I had a physical boss at a big limo service, I had to go to ANGER MANAGEMENT!!! Sorry, had a little relapse there.

I hate working retail. My first job out of high school (36 years ago) was in the Toy department at K-Mart. I would have to re-arrange/re-stock all my shelves hourly. And once in a while I would find some little kid putting together an entire Star-Wars toy set in the middle of my aisles! There's a reason why Costco pays $13/hour. It's called Combat-Pay. It's all about location, location, location. Just ask any NYC UBERX driver. They make some serious money way beyond your $5/hour, more like $29/hour. ---LADriver.

Why work 8 hours a day weekdays when the money is everywhen else? I find the key is to diversify by signing up for multiple on-demand driving services and figuring out the best times for each. Even though this is part time, I'm onboarded with 6 services and map out a schedule. Food delivery like DoorDash is great from 5pm to 8pm and often approaches $20/hour net. Non-emergency medical transport works quite well from about 10am to 6pm (pays double the per-mile rate of Uber).

Look around and find what other opportunities are in your city.

uber takes 25% from most drivers, since uber turnover is 60% every 6 months most 20% drivers are gone.
also how does this rectify with math: $4.20 min fare, $2.25 payout to driver. sound like 25% or 50%? 50 is right
so anyone talking of gross fare is not really talking about their pay at all. Gross fare minus 40% is more accurate.
$150 gross fare is simply $80 to you minus gas for that day and you just made $65 at best, again $5 an hour to driver!

Uber is a complete joke. These moron's are somehow able to keep us driving for peanuts. I only do it part-time and like it because I can go out whenever I want and laugh and log off and go home anytime I want. To do this full-time I give all those credit, I would go postal on these losers. I will soon start not accepting rides and only do the surges, but many times uncle ubinskie teases you with surge and still gives you minimum fare rides where you make a whopping $2.88! Dam I love that, $2.88 for what usually turns out to be 30 minutes of work. Thank you Uber, you are just like a hemorrhoid!!

Correction: Uber is amazing. These entrepreneurs are somehow able to keep morons driving for peanuts.

The rest of Uber's "partners" (maybe the vast majority) soon figure it out and, like you, become savvy and selective about when and how to work the system to their benefit.

It's the same problem as those freaking TNC ho drivers who don't give a [email protected] about well being of real "fare for hire" drivers. Do you know the going rate was around $2.50 per mile? Now, you guys are happy with $.70 per mile.

Absolutely correct. Uber X was $2.25 a mile in 2013 to early 2014. Then the big $.90 cut came in March of 14. I'll never forget how the e-mail was worded. The first line was "Great news everyone" then how cutting the fare to $1.35 will increase revenue and blah blah blah. My 2 X drivers quit driving for Uber that day. I still have Black/SUV drivers, but they will NOT take a Select fare.
