What I don't like about Hoboken is that when you take a non-surge request at like 7am and they're going to Midtown... fare comes out to $30-ish, minus the toll ($11.75 at 7am) minus SRF $1, minus uber fee rougly $2, and you basically end up with $15 having spent anywhere between one and two hours... those rides I dislike even more than $3.20 local ones...

My math is perfectly fine. My English not the best. 55$ minus 1$ SRF, is 54$. Take out 20$ for the toll. Now I got 34$. Take 7$ uber fee out of 34$ and I got 27$. Add 10$ from the toll and you got 37$. Don t use midtown tunnel and you get back to Jersey with 33-38$ in your packet in 1.5-2 hour. That is not bad. I do not calculate gas. I spend 3 tanks a week so I just calculate one time 120$/week or less now with the gas being crazy cheap. No LGA/JFK at rush hour on regular price. Not worth it. I think 15$/hour is great. Min wage is 8.25 in Jersey
I see that a lot of people don't pay attention to the fact that $20 for the toll is "untaxed money", in a sense, i.e. uber doesnt take it's cut from it. If you're lucky and have 3 riders in your car then you have a $14 "bonus" from which you pay zero to uber. Over time it adds up greatly. Good call on pointing it out!

I think the simple solution would be to charge NYC rates to anywhere in the city (including LGA & JFK) from NJ. Keep the $20 toll charge, but just charge NYC rates.

For example, today I did a LGA run which was 20mi and 40min. Total net fare (with tolls) was $51. $28 of that was tolls. So take home was basically $23, lmao! If NYC rates applied it would have been $80 (with tolls), so take home would be $52... Much, much better!

Even $80 for a LGA run from NJ in 40 mins is still super cheap for the passenger!

Also NYC rates should apply for Newark airport drop offs.

5.75 with carpool. 9.75-11.75 regular Ezpass rates depending on times. Coming back is free!!!!!!! It takes longer but is freeeeeee!!!! Yesterday at noon I did a LGA in 90 min back in jersey. 35$ for me before gas. Not bad. That is 20$/hour.
Yeah $35 before Gas, car maintenance, car payment, car Insurance! Stop doing uber Math math. What's your true cost of driving?

Found my favorite LGA trip.. 26 and a half minutes at 2.8 surge.

To OP: I know it's a huge pain in the ass, but try to be out by 4.30am on a Monday (Fridays are good too), and don't take any non-surge requests. Best of luck! (honestly)
For those that need help seeing how to not give discount rides. Please watch whole series, its long but worth it.

It's a great concept for the passengers but not for the drivers but when you just need the money you do what it takes
One thing that I've learned here is always keep your rider app open where you at so there is more demand causing surge prices to happen more often if everyone did the same we would make more money just have to learn and play the system

Wow... Don't laugh to loud educate yourself first. it's call costs of doing business since you are using your car for business your insurance and car payment are expenses. Besides depreciation is not just a tax deduction it's also the use and abuse of your car which you pay for on a monthly basis

My wife s car is 4 years old and 75k with NO UBER and it worth less then half of original price new. A new car lose so much in the first years that is not relevant with the miles. I look at the thing differently. I pay 350/month for the car and I want to get money out of it. In two years my car will worth about the same amount that I will still own and I will trade in or sell. Is like a cell phone. Every two years a new one. Some people smoke 200-300 month. I drive a 2014 model for 350 and make money out of it. My wife makes 45k a year and her car cost her 20k new. In 4 years she paid the car 9 times. When it get 100k that car will go to. Time for a new one. That is how I think. I know is different. I am different.

The price uber charges for these runs should change to the NY rate as soon as you go over the bridge into NY. They should charge the exact tolls when going through NYC, not a set fee which does not cover the tolls. I've complained to uber each time I do one of these runs and so far they have given me the actual toll cost. I know eventually this will stop but until it does I will continue to ask for actual cost.

Average run from NJ to Laguardia or JFK will net you $50-80 but it's a scam. Once you remove $28 (or more) for tolls, you're only making 20-50...

So a $55 far will net you roughly (55-28) $27 for an hour an a half work if you're lucky... 3 hours if you're in traffic.

Uber needs to let drivers keep the $20 NY fee. Charge the driver an extra $20 for going out of state. It's a joke that 3 people can go from Jersey City to Laguardia for only $55.
Yes, and drivers has the right to refuse going to NYC Airports. I do it all the time. Uber told me to do it.
Do Not go to NYC Airports.

My advice to you is to think like a businessman. Don't be different be smart. Talk with an accountant, sounds like you need to. Uber works for me, I run it like a business. Separate your family life from your uber business.
