(sorry mods if wrong area)

I know this is gets a little more cerebral than we are used to here, but the news of the impending demise of Uber are greatly exaggerated.

The most recent publicly available statistics, show that Uber & Lyft, aren't just growing off the decaying corpse of Taxi industry, but are creating a new market above and beyond.

Understanding how Uber & Lyft Grow in Markets

....and this makes perfect sense. Before rideshare, taking a taxi was a last resort consideration for folks in most cities.

One examples it the prostitution industry. Rather than spend their hard earned cash on a Taxi, which might have been upwards of anywhere from 10-30% of their gross, hookers would demand to be dropped off by their Johns. Now the Johns simply ship their leftovers conveniently out via Uber. That's one example where Uber has created their own market. Those hookers weren't going to take Taxi's before Uber came along.

The only thing the article leaves out is how can Uber and Lyft possibly continue to meet this demand they have created?!
Well, hence the title, as long they can continue to find suckers working for a third of minimum wage to drive around the lowest dregs of society on their pointless excursions to 7-eleven and McDoanlds they will continue to grow and profit.

Meanwhile, we the drivers live in constant fear. Even the scummiest heroin addicted PAX, can destroy a drivers entire history and hard work with a star rating.

"Continue to grown and profit" ...
I dont think Uber has turned a profit yet.
That's only because of mismanagement at the very top. Hookers and Blow aren't cheap, and neither are pie in the sky projects like self-driving cars and other garbage.

Omce they trim the fat, the business itself is pure profit, we're the ones eating the bulk of costs through gas, car repair, and our sanity.

Don't knock the heroin addicts - they're mellow and cause no harm. They just want to get to their point person's place to get well and probably don't even give a second thought to the ride or their driver. You've probably had many of them in your car without even realizing it.

The entitled, cheap, frugally-addicted folks though? THEY are the ones to worry about.

right. when you continue to subsidize the rides with VC money your market share will grow. When you stop, it will decline.

We really need a whole separate thread on which drug addicts are best, pros/cons...
