If they allow you to retain 100% of your fares... Are they giving you the typical referral $$$ for new drivers as well, or is this what they do instead of that? -- If you are simply a part-time driver, the actual referral $$$ would be more desired...
You have to read the fine print:
This promotion does not affect the standard referral payout in your city; if your referral completes his or her first 20 trips, the $25 standard referral payout will be added to your account, to be reflected in the following week's payment statement. This offer does not include rideshare referrals.

Yeah I agree that running here to post this is not the smartest. Let's bring more attention to it and see if it helps or hurts the situation, right?

Did you even read the article that you posted a link for???

It clearly states that it is a particular law in California that reclassifies non-violent rather minor felonies (like shoplifting, illegal drug use, check fraud) to misdemeanor offenses. This means they have technically been convicted of a misdemeanor which allows them to become Uber drivers. Uber still does not hire felons and will not hire someone who has been convicted of a crime of "DUI or any other intoxication-related misdemeanors".

Comprehension is fundamental:

"On Wednesday, the San Francisco company will announce an initiative that could help clear the path for convicted felons whose crimes are reduced to misdemeanors to drive for the ride-hailing platform."

Let us not get away from the post title: uber getting desperate again...

The link was provided for that purpose. As others have done, I will not debate you and your view on uber. The info is helpful, or it is not. The reader can decide.
I could not agree with you more. Reading comprehension is fundamental!

I do appreciate you making my point so obvious though. If you read the article to the end you will see it is a change in California law that reclassifies some felonies as misdemeanor crimes. These people were therefore convicted of misdemeanor crimes according to the law.

From your article:
"According to Uber's chief security officer, Joe Sullivan, the company will continue to disqualify drivers with felonies on their records, and it has "zero tolerance for DUI or any intoxication-related misdemeanors."

Anyone with a record of physical or sexual violence and reckless driving would also be disqualified, Sullivan said."

They are not "former felons", they are people convicted of simple misdemeanor crimes. Uber still does not accept felons to drive for them (and no DUI or impairment-related misdemeanors) and your point is moot.

They are not convicted felons according to the law and only technically have misdemeanors. That is the point you seem to be incapable of understanding.

It does not have an affect on the number of drivers Uber has.

Again from your article source:
Uber's Sullivan, however, countered: "It's not going to materially change the number of drivers coming onto the platform."

If you are trying to make a point then simply supply a source that helps bolster it. That's all.
