After the latest update on iPhone ... You can see the "uber is using your location" blue bar at the top even if your app is closed ... It's still running in the background...
Only way to get rid of it is to double tap the home button and swipe the app up ..

Uber is being sneaky and wanna know where you're at ...

Class act lawsuit anyone ?

There was another thread that brought up this subject last week. I was wondering why Uber would do this, the most obvious is spying on drivers and pax.

But, one other reason is they may be developing a "Wazelike" app. They would be able to take all the drivers and pax' speeds and get accurate, timely driving speeds.

Any other ideas?

Optimization algorithms having access to more data points can potentially make the entire Uber network more efficient.
If they can track us when we are re-positioning, they can potentially forecast the supply and adjust the surge accordingly.
They can predict number of surge hunters in an area and try to not give it to them. Hence, reducing the surge amount and its duration.

Why would Uber want to reduce surge? When we make more on a fare, so do they.

They can set the price higher if they want to make more money NOW.
It is to their benefit if they make the entire system more efficient.
This is the only way Uber can keep the competitors in check by making the product cheaper than any other alternative.
they will screw teh drivers and their cars in the process of destroying the competition.

If they were short sighted and wanted to make big return on equity right now, they could do it. Higher rates will not deter current users, But they want to make it cheaper than owning a car. thi smeans, we, the drivers, will be less and less valuable but the Uber system will be more valuable and efficient in its totality.

You're right that higher fares mean more money for both driver and fuber. They make more off of the Safe Rider Fee they take off the top of every ride, and therein lies the rub. By killing the surge they increase the number of rides per hour and collect $1 from every one of them. Fubar's goals are pax satisfaction and affordability for pax. If they can rig the game so there are lots of low cost rides available for pax they will still make their money. They don't care about drivers making more money, they are all about rise quantity not ride quality.

Nice! I was about the warning to every driver. Kill the uber partner app, it will kill your battery too.
