I can understand that we are doing uber for some benefit for ourselves but this guy is next level. I dropped a passenger off from Staines to Horley near Gatwick. I then decided to go into the airport queue where I met a driver who was an uber mad lover. I mentioned that Im a part timer and he proposed to me that I should leave my teaching job to do uber full time as what other job can you make £200 per day. I said are you serious?? At that point, I walked away from him and sat back in my car. Didnt want to disrespect the guy but couldnt continue the conversation. Uber Driver who has lost the plot.

If you want to earn extra money why don't you do private tuition as a teacher? Why would a teacher do part time cabbing with all the extra overheads like insurance car etc?

I enjoy driving and cant stand sitting with kids in the evening too. Driving around gives me a bit of time to myself. I own my car which is a 60 plate so even though its not great money, its something totally different to what I do. By the way, I teach part time 3 days a week too.

You could earn some more money by holding extra curricular lessons while waiting at Gatwick.
Hundreds of uneducated Uber drivers have more than a few hours to kill.
Maths would be ideal as most of them think they're making money.

P.s Don't let them fob you off with their fake PHds.

You forgot to mention the basics of your part time uber business, so we understand what Part time PH driving means.
How many hrs do you drive roughly and what's your average turnover/takings...only after this we can see which of the two are the clever one.

Roughly between 20-25 hours and taking about £400. I never pay to wash my car, i do it myself. My phone bill is something i will pay regardless of uber or not. Been doing uber 3 years now, only had to change my tyres once. I guess that would be normal too if I wasnt doing uber. Service the car yearly. An extra MOT and PHV inspection are additional costs. Finally I gota pay my tax. After all expenses, I roughly make £8-10 an hour after tax which is close to minimum wage and is not enough but an opportunity to make that extra cash. I can understand some people say your better off doing tuition or even working in tesco or Lidl. But trust me, the grass isnt green whichever job ur in. Ive seen those workers under proper stress at busy times. So my choice, afterall Id rather drive then do something else as I find it relaxing and very easy. I will obviously quit as I wont buy a new car from April 2019. Could do now and probarbly will do some agency supply teaching from then onwards which pay around £125-£150 per day but something I dont want to do.

I havent felt like its been a waste of time for the last 3 years so life goes on.

Uber definitely need to put up those rates so earnings could be better as its obviously not enough

Wonderful advert but part time ph is a no win when you include all the dead spells and real costs on the car. Not to mention the 3-4 k a year hire and reward insurance. That wipes out all your earnings and you are below minimum wage. Can't be bothered to put figures for you but that's the reality.
Teaching privately is minimum £20 hour so you would make that tax free cash in hand if you were a teacher.
Know several people who do it.

Lol I apologise if it sounds like an advert. I had already included all expenses including hire and reward insurance, fuel and tax. Ur insurance is very high as mine is under 2k. You got a point regarding the car, however as I havent done as much mileage as a full timer, I feel the car is still worth what it would be if I was not an uber driver. Bought the car for 8k for leisure, the car would be worth around 5k now with or without uber. Ill still get 5k for it now. After my calculations, like I mentioned, it is a profit of around £8 per hour. Am I happy with that? No way. Its not clever but I still prefer driving than other things. Ive mentioned before u get fed up of constantly teaching so require a bit of a change so both go well together for my own well being.

I only come out during busy hours. Try to avoid any dead spells. However u cant make £200 a day everyday as the thread title suggests.

Only that clown I met at Gatwick believes that £200 a day everyday is easy money doing uber.

It's great to see you have low insurance as most newcomers start at 4-5 k for fully comp.
Uber is dead as a door nail if you want to earn serious money but if someone is happy to earn minimum wage and less for taking cheapo entitled mob around then good luck to them.
If I needed minimum wage I'd do static guard and be sure to be playing internet all day/ night.
