Serious/joke question: Since seatbelts aren't made for canines, who is responsible if Poochie splats against a window?

We are....The driver.Serious/joke question: Since seatbelts aren't made for canines, who is responsible if Poochie splats against a window?
Whimsical question, but the thought legitimately occured to me yesterday with a tiny "service bulldog" atop my Pax's lap in back. That little dog could've went flying and it would not have been pretty. I wasn't a fan of the anxiety that image brought me.You know the way you phrased it I can tell you meant that as a serious question.
The story says the driver refused to take "a group of blind people and their service dogs." Are we required to take any mix of service dogs and pax that equal up to 5? Ridiculoushttp://www.miamiherald.com/news/state/florida/article88139382.html
Florida Uber driver arrested after refusing ride to blind man, service dog.

ORLANDO
An Uber driver in Florida was arrested after deputies say he refused to transport a group of blind people and their service dogs.
According to news outlets, citing an arrest report, 60-year-old Simon Pierre Andre Nau was picking up Robert Stigile, who's blind, and other blind people in Stigile's group Monday night in Orlando.
Stigile says that when Nau showed up, he said, "I don't take dogs." Stigile explained the dogs were service animals and Nau allegedly replied "I don't care."
Stigile says he was standing in the open door frame and felt the car move forward, striking him.
Orange County Sheriff's deputies arrested Nau on charges of failure to transport a blind person with a service dog and battery.
Deputies say Nau laughed about the incident as if he "didn't fully understand that he had broken the law." It's unclear if Nau has an attorney.

Per ADA requirements: "Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal's work or the individual's disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls."Whimsical question, but the thought legitimately occured to me yesterday with a tiny "service bulldog" atop my Pax's lap in back. Well said TedG, I could not have said it better myself....well I could have but it would have been longer and with more words and not gotten to the point as well as you did and people would have stopped reading my ramble half way through so the better said part of what I would have said would not have mattered. And if the existence of five service animals is going to cause problems regarding the amount of space in your vehicle I would think you could at minimum ask them to order a second car. This is a great example because you're not refusing the trip because the person has a disability. You're refusing the trip because your vehicle can't accommodate. Having said that, these people were blind not stupid. I doubt they were planning on piling five + five into an Uber
This is the point which cannot be stressed enough. Bend over backwards to accommodate people with service animals. First of all its the right thing to do, secondly the penalties for not doing so can be severe and have knocked many businesses out of the game. There a lawyers who specialize in this type of case that will be more than happy to take your car as settlement.

Also, it's the same thing in taking minors without them having an adult with them. If something happens, we as the driver will be responsible. Minor's parents, Why didn't you call me and ask if you could take my minor child in your car? He/she went to 'such and such' place and OD'd on drugs/alcohol that night....it's your fault!Serious/joke question: Since seatbelts aren't made for canines, who is responsible if Poochie splats against a window?
Just as all passengers must wear a seatbelt, couldn't we require a canine "seatbelt" which the rider should provide?Serious/joke question: Since seatbelts aren't made for canines, who is responsible if Poochie splats against a window?
Wait a minute... is that "service dog" or actual real guide dog type of animal? Is there a distinction? Because people are considering all kinds of animals as "service animals" couldn't they also make us haul goats, etc?Whimsical question, but the thought legitimately occured to me yesterday with a tiny "service bulldog" atop my Pax's lap in back. I don't believe there is an Animal Seatbelt law, yet....Just as all passengers must wear a seatbelt, couldn't we require a canine "seatbelt" which the rider should provide?
Yes. Service animals come in all kinda variety. But if someone tries to load a giraffe into your car that's not something your car is capable of. Or five people with five dogs. In that case you probably wouldn't have to take all five but you can bet you'll be taking at least a fewWait a minute... is that "service dog" or actual real guide dog type of animal? Actually no the law only recognizes dogs and I believe miniature horses... any other animal isn't recognized by the law.Yes. Service animals come in all kinda variety. I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing that out. The ADA and FHAA define service animals differently. Be nice if the federal government could agree on a single definitionActually no the law only recognizes dogs and I believe miniature horses... any other animal isn't recognized by the law.

Supposedly they are to be sitting on the floor. Why does Uber tell us to have a towel handy for them?Yes. Service animals come in all kinda variety.
