Florida Uber driver arrested after refusing ride to blind man, service dog.

Associated Press

ORLANDO
An Uber driver in Florida was arrested after deputies say he refused to transport a group of blind people and their service dogs.

According to news outlets, citing an arrest report, 60-year-old Simon Pierre Andre Nau was picking up Robert Stigile, who's blind, and other blind people in Stigile's group Monday night in Orlando.

Stigile says that when Nau showed up, he said, "I don't take dogs." Stigile explained the dogs were service animals and Nau allegedly replied "I don't care."

Stigile says he was standing in the open door frame and felt the car move forward, striking him.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies arrested Nau on charges of failure to transport a blind person with a service dog and battery.

Deputies say Nau laughed about the incident as if he "didn't fully understand that he had broken the law." It's unclear if Nau has an attorney.

Serious/joke question: Since seatbelts aren't made for canines, who is responsible if Poochie splats against a window?
We are....The driver.

And if the existence of five service animals is going to cause problems regarding the amount of space in your vehicle I would think you could at minimum ask them to order a second car. This is a great example because you're not refusing the trip because the person has a disability. You're refusing the trip because your vehicle can't accommodate. Having said that, these people were blind not stupid. I doubt they were planning on piling five + five into an Uber

This is the point which cannot be stressed enough. Bend over backwards to accommodate people with service animals. First of all its the right thing to do, secondly the penalties for not doing so can be severe and have knocked many businesses out of the game. There a lawyers who specialize in this type of case that will be more than happy to take your car as settlement.
Well said TedG, I could not have said it better myself....well I could have but it would have been longer and with more words and not gotten to the point as well as you did and people would have stopped reading my ramble half way through so the better said part of what I would have said would not have mattered.

Also, it's the same thing in taking minors without them having an adult with them. If something happens, we as the driver will be responsible. Minor's parents, Why didn't you call me and ask if you could take my minor child in your car? He/she went to 'such and such' place and OD'd on drugs/alcohol that night....it's your fault!

How about we have said minor or service animal in our car (on Trip) when someone runs a red light and smashes into us and kills or injures them badly? As the Driver of the vehicle we are held responsible for all of the above. Uber will just say, We state in our policy to not take minors. We state in our policy the driver is responsible for the safety of all in their car.

Just as all passengers must wear a seatbelt, couldn't we require a canine "seatbelt" which the rider should provide?
I don't believe there is an Animal Seatbelt law, yet....
