Dash cam, no pool (if you do, stop new requests). And no low ratings in certain parts of town.

Be vigilant, make eye contact when greeting each passenger. If your gut tells you something is off, cancel, better safe than sorry
Also use common sense. If you feel you are unsafe, cancel and leave. Uber is not worth my life being threatened.

This is why I carry
I'm a gun owner and I believe that it should be our choice whether or not to carry while driving.

But in this driver's situation, I'm not sure if her having a gun would have helped her or made any difference at all.

With the armed passenger and his partner sitting in the back seat holding his gun on her and on the front seat passenger, how could she have used a gun to protect herself, especially while driving? If you were the driver instead of her, and if you were packing, how would you have handled this situation? (Besides not accepting pool rides, or allowing criminals into your car!)

Perhaps nothing. Being held from behind by 2 is probably no win situation. A left handed, horizontal draw, shoulder rig should give the most options. Keeping it holstered is always an option.

Well since the gunman showed he was eager to shoot the gun by shooting a hole in the floor and shooting at several other cars on the freeway, probably nothing. And it depends on where your gun is stashed to use it.

One never knows what they will really do until they are presented with a situation.

Swerve the car the opposite direction of armed pax (I'm assuming their seatbelts is off by this point, as usual), let them bang their head on the window, draw my gun and load some lead. Another solution is to twist the wrist of the gun owner (most wont shoot on spot), pull them forward to bite their hand, grab their shirt, and pull them in for some headbutta until their unconscious.

First off this boy shot inside the car and at other cars along the freeway. I assume he would not hesitate to shoot, maybe if you grabbed the gun itself you may have a chance. Second, you have a concealed firearm that is not loaded?
