UBER DRIVER ARRESTED FOR REFUSING RIDE TO BLIND MAN WITH SERVICE DOG
Uber driver Simon Pierre Andre Nau was arrested in Orlando, Fla. for allegedly failing to provide a ride to a blind man and his service dog. (Orange County, Fla., Sheriff's Office)

An Uber driver in Orlando was arrested for allegedly refusing to provide a ride to a blind man from Los Angeles and his service dog, and allegedly hitting the man with his vehicle as he tried to drive off, officials said.

The incident happened on July 4 at a Bahama Breeze restaurant in Orlando.
Police say the blind man, identified as Robert Stigile of Woodland Hills, Calif., was with a group of people, including other blind people with service animals, and had ordered a van from Uber.

When the driver, identified as 60-year-old Simon Pierre Andre Nau, arrived, he told Stigile he doesn't take dogs.

Stigile argued with the driver, telling him the dogs were service animals and he was required by law to take them, he later told a sheriff's deputy.

Stigile's yellow lab showed indications of being a guide dog, including wearing a walking handle, the deputy noted in his report.

Nau continued to refuse and started to drive off with Stigile still in the open door frame, according to the sheriff's report. The car door frame hit Stigile, he later told a deputy, and he started to yell at the driver, who then stopped.

Stigile then had the restaurant valet call the Orange County Sheriff's Office to file a complaint.

A deputy said Nau laughed about the incident when interviewed and apparently did not understand he had broken the law.

Nau, a Kissimmee, Fla. resident, was arrested on two misdemeanors - failure to transport a blind person with a service dog and battery.

I'm allergic to animal hair. It's my disability. I'm protected from the same group the service animals are protected with.
I'm allergic to animal hair myself. If an animal is close to me, I can't breath, and my eyes start to water. Does this happens to you?:(

It feels like I'm suffocating. This is why I really hate that DUCK Tedgey's cat, but I pretend like I love her.:p

He was arrested coz he hurt the guy, not coz he refused to take dogs. He has the right to refuse anyone.
Media treat people like dumb a****.
This is a borderline attitude that may land you in deep water. For starters the service animal thing has been covered to the point of nausea here and countless other places so I'm a little surprised people are still confused by this.

Here's the bottom line on it: you have the right to refuse anybody a ride, this is true. But you may not refuse a ride to someone SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE A SERVICE ANIMAL. And yes you can get arrested for it but you have to be a real A-hole for it to get that far. If a rider complains you're going to be deactivated for sure and will likely have a big ass fine to pay.

So if it is in fact the dog you don't want in the car, you'd better come up with a good lie that has nothing to do with the dog. DO NOT say you have allergies or anything to do with the dog. Say you have diarrhea, say you have exploding elbow syndrome, but you may not refuse the ride because of a service animal.

Yes, so unless you state the reason yourself ("He has a service animal! That's why I didn't pick him up!") you're good to go :)
