He even offered cash for waiting.
Did he offer it by throwing it onto the front seat, or, did he just
say that he would give it to you? If he throws it onto the front seat, fine. I take a look at it and tell him how much waiting time that has bought him.
Far too often, people will tell you that they will give you _______________, but, when it comes time to come across, it does not happen. If you are on F
uba
r or Gr
yft and you try to remind the customer of what he said. One or more of the following will occur:
1. He will tell you "too bad" and not render unto you the promised tip.
2. His memory suddenly will become amazingly short.
3, He will outright deny it.
4. He will complain to Uber/Lyft that "driver demanded cash" or "driver asked for a tip". One, or both, used to have checkboxes for this. The customer will do this regardless of whether or not he actually does come across with the scratch. Uber/Lyft will, of course, believe the customer and totally ignore your defence. At best, you get a warning; at worst, de-activated.
They can "offer" me all of the cash or in-application tip that they will. If I do not see it or it is not enough, they get out, I end trip, award one star (as I am going to get one star, anyhow).
If the cash is not enough, I simply return it to the customer and politely decline to wait. I do not mention that it is not enough. If you mention a figure, or even state that X dollars is not enough, you can have problems. If you tell Uber/Lyft that you never mentioned any tip, any cash, any money or any amount, sometimes that works. Often, you still get the warning, but, you do not get de-activated.
