It's been pointed out by myself and others that as bad as the 81 cents per mile is, the horrible 12.75 cents per minute is even WORSE.

You discovered that the hard way.

Taxi drivers get more than triple that amount.

Did you cancel after starting the trip?

This is why I hate to go to the Gaylord, especially from Virginia and especially in Rush Hour. I get burned all the time there with these trips that require more than one hour to complete, take you away from boost and surge zones and pay a paltry fourteen to nineteen dollars. In fact, every time that a customer gets in when I am driving UberX, I open the trip and see "Gaylord", it is guaranteed that the customer will ding me for "professionalism". For this reason, and a few others, a customer who wants to go to the Gaylord receives an automatic One Star.

The Gaylord is one of the few times that I will let a customer know that I do not want to haul him.

Kinda sorta happened to me but I had already picked the dude up and he wanted to stop at walmart. i told him I would wait a little bit. He even offered cash for waiting. That was cool. But after 15 minutes of waiting and no reply to my messages, it was time to move... and about 10 minutes later I notice my rating go down my 1/10th of a percent. smh. wtf the dude expect for taking 15+ minutes to buy some flowers and candy?

That's why the smart thing to do is say no from the beginning. I had a Lyft rider try to bag me like that. I told her I don't get paid to wait and that she got 2 minutes as a courtesy. Gave her 3 and left.

He even offered cash for waiting.
Did he offer it by throwing it onto the front seat, or, did he just say that he would give it to you? If he throws it onto the front seat, fine. I take a look at it and tell him how much waiting time that has bought him.

Far too often, people will tell you that they will give you _______________, but, when it comes time to come across, it does not happen. If you are on Fubar or Gryft and you try to remind the customer of what he said. One or more of the following will occur:

1. He will tell you "too bad" and not render unto you the promised tip.

2. His memory suddenly will become amazingly short.

3, He will outright deny it.

4. He will complain to Uber/Lyft that "driver demanded cash" or "driver asked for a tip". One, or both, used to have checkboxes for this. The customer will do this regardless of whether or not he actually does come across with the scratch. Uber/Lyft will, of course, believe the customer and totally ignore your defence. At best, you get a warning; at worst, de-activated.

They can "offer" me all of the cash or in-application tip that they will. If I do not see it or it is not enough, they get out, I end trip, award one star (as I am going to get one star, anyhow).

If the cash is not enough, I simply return it to the customer and politely decline to wait. I do not mention that it is not enough. If you mention a figure, or even state that X dollars is not enough, you can have problems. If you tell Uber/Lyft that you never mentioned any tip, any cash, any money or any amount, sometimes that works. Often, you still get the warning, but, you do not get de-activated.
