Uber Comfort changes (Huge loss for some drivers)

So, why are they are doing this?

There has definitely been an increase of these cars on the platform in the past 2 years. Are these cars taking away market share from XL drivers?

If you could order a car for 7 people and pay Comfort rates rather than XL rates, I could see how this would devalue the XL experience? (Not that I give a crap about the XL drivers, AKA the Somali Syndicate/Mogadishu Mafia, who are bribing the attendants at the cruise area pickup/drop-off spots to get airport rides as well as harassing people as they come off the ships to get airport rides. But that's another post, entirely.)

Something has also been going on with the Sienna drivers at the airport. My contact at the Drivers Union told me that these cars have definitely increased on the platform, and they have been creating some issues at the airport in the pickup area by parking/dropping/picking up pax in the section allotted only for XL drivers.

Is it an insurance thing for Uber? Are there higher rates for cars that can take more pax which aren't covered by the Comfort fare?

I don't know.

But, based on my many years dealing with Uber I assume this change is driven by monetary factors. That has been their MO for years and they don't give AF if any drivers get screwed in the process.

They want to chose temps or not hear your music? Biggest Uber Driver mistake. YES, its your car... but for the ride they are paying you for... its THEIR RIDE. This isnt just driving your personal car for money. This is a JOB. A CUSTOMER SERVICE JOB. If youre driving like what they want doesnt matter...... youre in the wrong business. You probably whine about low tips too... well... consider the level of CUSTOMER SERVICE youre offering. Simply driving isnt all we should do for our riders. Thats why Im a perfect 5⭐ after 7yrs and 10,000 rides and still pull $1500wk working 40-50hrs cuz I BANKROLL tips by providing exemplary service. Wanna run into 7-11? Yes. Want to make requests for music? Sure. Need to go back because you forgot your keys? No problem. I take CARE of my riders... I dont whine about their needs. They are PAYING FOR THE RIDE..... and youd be surprised who will tip more on your attitude and service 😎👍
But do you get your riders to the right destination? Because you seem lost here with your post which went in a completely different direction than the original topic.

This slow whittling of cars from comfort tiers seems part of Uber's plan to move drivers to buy all electric cars.

Thereby, realizing another part of their stated Zero Carbon Plan to be zero emissions mobility platform by 2040?

Uber's Zero Carbon Plan aims for a 100% zero-emission mobility platform by 2040, globally, by supporting the transition to electric and shared rides, advocating for zero-emission deliveries, promoting sustainable packaging for Uber Eats, and partnering to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and micromobility options like bikes and scooters. The company has set interim goals, including zero-emission operations in North American and European cities by 2030 and specific initiatives like Uber Green to facilitate low and zero-emission rides for users.

Key Goals and Targets
  • 2030: 100% zero-emission rides in the US, Canada, and European cities.

  • 2040: 100% of all rides and deliveries globally to be zero-emission.

  • 2040: Become a zero-emission mobility platform worldwide.
