Rideshare drivers bypassing fatigue restrictions as cost-of-living hits

According to the Transport Workers' Union, some rideshare drivers have reported being on the road for up to 18 hours a day, swapping between multiple apps in order to bypass fatigue restrictions.

End result will be, more restrictions on hours and no change to earnings. Leave Didi on overnight by mistake and you won't be able to work when you wake up the next day. Thanks a lot, transport workers union! Why are they even interfering? Who decided they represent us?

That is exactly union point. RS drivers shouldn't have to work as slaves and be exploited as they are. Point is that drivers need to work less and earn decent income, as others workers in Australia.

Well you first get the earnings up, only then do you talk about reducing the hours worked. What you don't do is combine the two as the only thing that will happen is the reduced hours.

Uber will never increase rates if drivers don't decrease hours, why would they? Only when drivers drive less, they can expect that Uber will increase rates. Less driving = more profitable

Uber does not want us to work less, they want us to drive more. These driving hours restrictions were forced on Uber by the truly awful Gladys. I am not really affected by them, I just do not like government interference. Different story for those who choose to hang out in the cage or at international. They aren't driving, they are just relaxing. It is absurd that the hours they spend in the cage counts towards their 12 driving hours.

Higher rates mean more profit for Uber. Uber still has the mindset of a startup with the primary aim of increasing its customer base. A mature company on the other hand aims to maximise earnings from existing customers.

Its supply and demand .With 600k migrant coming in every year. Top migrant country like India where most of the uber drivers coming from.Uber has no problem of getting new drivers to sign up even they reduce the rate further. Uber will only increase rate if theres not enough drivers. I know its very frustrating when you work very hard and you look at your uber app you reliased you only made less $100 after hrs and hrs of driving. uber earning is less than 10 years ago while inflation keep going up.

New migrants should be on P's before being given a full licence.
