I got a strange call earlier today from someone claiming to be from Uber, telling me to check my drivers license to make sure it was updated. He claimed that they have started to proactively contact drivers when their documents are about to expire and was about to walk me through the process so that could update it while I was on the phone with him. I didn’t give him any information, and he didn’t ask for any information. I basically told him to F off, that Uber NEVER calls drivers, even when something critical happenes. (I had a major thing happen back in March and Uber never followed up). So I gave the guy an earful about that and he said he would escalate it (ya right.)

I did get a new drivers license back in May/June and I wasn’t driving at the time, so it’s possible that the old one file is +6 months expired, though the system didn’t prompt me to send the new one yet… so maybe it will on 11/1?

Anyone ever get a call like this?

I did get a message in the app earlier this week to confirm my license plate. So it probably was actually Uber. They do have something messed up in their system as I’m getting messages to update my insurance card which was done a week ago

Sounds like a scammer.
But fwiw, the Secretary of State has extended DL renewals until 12/1 so if your license had expired you'll probably need to update it in the app by then and Uber should notify you through the app.

I got a few calls from them, but all from their lost and found department, customers left something in my car. I mean the caller ID on my phone literally says Uber and it’s a San Francisco phone number so I didn’t doubt it. They were legit calls from them.

ONE MORE TIME. UBER WILL CALL YOU !!! IF---
there is a safety concern either you or a rider reported. They will not be fishing for personal info. They will describe the incident/claim and will want to make sure you and/or any rider (if present) is safe.

F this misinformation about Uber never calling. It's a misnomer, just as much as "never say your name to the Uber driver, they need to tell you who you are."

Apologies. Yes, uber will call you regarding safety incidents. I had a safety incident a few years back that I initiated by reporting the rider...though they contacted me first through the app to say they would be calling (or asking if they could call.).
Other than that, they never call. Ever.
