Who needs a beacon when you are pax can hold up their phone with a color on it....

....but instead they are nose buried into the their phone or 50 people standing on the same crowded bar street holding up the same color (here, red is a favorite)

My experience is Pax hold up black or white... Obviously black is harder to see at night... but so is white... and I slowly roll by to find parking if needed.

I’m planning on using mine as I get close to the 300 trips Chicago requires. Had a Lyft amp for a long time and I use that too.

Tbh, compared to other stuff I’ve done in the past in vehicles, I’ll gladly have a lighted sign saying to the cops “hey I’m just an Uber, not waiting for my reefer connect to come out” lol

But I understand why a lot don’t like to use it.

in CA, no light protruding through windshield while car is in motion
It differs from state to state. In Georgia as long as you do not display a blue light, the cops don't care and some are wanting Uber/Lyft vehicles to be clearly marked.

Same in Chicago - only certain suburbs with nothing better to do will try to ticket you. Courts overturn it. Some City council members want lights for Rideshare.

I've heard New Jersey is looking at doing the same - lights for Rideshare vehicles.

these govt. entities continue to show how asinine their actions are.

The original idea of the beacon was a good one. I didn't know the rider could pick their own color, and that part is pretty stupid/counter-productive. In the DFW area, most of my pax have never seen one, so they don't know it's purpose. Other drivers have asked how they can get one, and I say I can't remember the number, but it's got something to do with the number of rides given. Mine seem to be having problems keeping a charge. Maybe because I was leaving them plugged in all the time? I get confused Uber pax because they see the Lyft beacon, which clearly spells out "Lyft", but they don't know Uber's logo, so they don't realize I'm their ride. Once again, proof that Uber doesn't care to educate their pax...or their drivers.
