Uber will be doing their best to phase out older drivers who are still on the 20% commission rate as they get more new ones on-board at the 25% commission cut. In fact, they have already started gettingvery pushy by sending threatening emails about ratings being too low at 4.8 stars (how ridiculous) and now they are sending emails regarding not accepting calls. Check it out...

If you do not accept 3 trip requests in a row, we will take this as an indication that you do not want to be online, and your account will go offline for 30 minutes. You can go online again after 30 minutes.
You will see this message if you are logged off for 30 minutes:
"Error: Low acceptance rate. Please wait up to 30 minutes to go back online."

Seriously? Out of $100 dollars in fares (which will take you quite a few hours to accomplish on a normal day) you will run up approx 160km of mileage on your vehicle (which depreciates the value of your vehicle), you will pay $20 (or $25 for the newbies) to Uber and $9.10 in GST which leaves you with $70.90.
Then you can take off fuel and maintenance on your vehicle which is another $13 approx (depending on your vehicle) which leaves you with $57.90. Then for most of us, we will be required to pay 32.5% tax on that $57.90 which is $18.82 which leaves us with a grand total of $39.08 (or $34.08 for newbies) for hours of driving up the mileage on our vehicles by running strangers around town for an illegal company who pays NO TAX whatsoever in this country (no GST because we pay that for them and no tax on their huge profits).
In addition, drivers get virtually no support for their massive 20% or 25% contribution to Uber, not even a phone number to call for assistance when on the road. All you get is a reliable and constant barrage of threating emails and text messages from the blood suckers.
Considering all of this I am now quite happy for Uber to go ahead and take me offline PERMANENTLY! After 3 months I have finally seen the light and done the math. I have tried every which way to make Ubering a financially viable enterprise but now realise it's impossible. It's great if you just want to do a couple of rides per week for a bit of fun but if you think you can make any money from it, think again.
Also, beware all the drivers who have run up a huge tax debt which the ATO will catch up with you for because they are targeting Uber drivers via the banking information supplied to them by Uber themselves! (Warning: Your income tax may be even higher than estimated here if it's considered to be a second job!)
Uber is cleaning up, paying no tax and laughing all the way to the bank off the backs of fools like us. They won't care when the tax office comes knocking on the doors of all those drivers who didn't pay GST and income tax on their fares. They don't care that drivers are working for an hourly rate that would make 7/11 blush. All Uber cares about is making as much money as possible from Australia without paying a cent in tax for the privilege.
